He calls himself “a lucky man.” His work reflects a life that is lived close to the earth. His words speak as a soul that is ageless. Growing up in East Texas, James Surls built things. Toys and carts gave way to amazing sculptural works, drawings and prints. Presently living in Colorado with his wife, the artist Charmaine Locke, James works reflects pieces of his reality or imagination. Surls’ work continues to be exhibited worldwide—from the Dallas Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim in New York City, among others. Collectors interested in James’ work often travel to his studio. The collaborative work of brothers Einar and Jamex De La Torre reflects a life rich in cultural iconography. Born in Guadalajara, México, and dividing their time between Ensenada, México and San Diego, California the De La Torre brothers work in a variety of medium including glass, assemblage and lenticular prints. Mexican folklore, Southern California surf culture mixed with Catholicism creates the provocative and colorful work of the De La Torres. Their work has been exhibited around the world from

After 40 years, the original artists of the Chicano Park murals, through a grant from Caltrans received the opportunity to re-invigorate the aging murals with new techniques, fresh ideas, and seasoned talent. The documentary delves into the original artists' motives and aspirations to transform the park into a creative outlet for future generations, while maintaining it as a center for free expression. This film is timely as older public art across almost every major US city is deteriorating and needs to be restored. The documentary brings this national issue to the forefront. Additionally, as the original artists grow older like the murals, it is important to document their vision and involvement in the creation and restoration of the murals for the benefit of everyone.
