Here's my final project from my summer Motion Media course. The only big requirements were the animation had to represent all four seasons in some manner and each "season" had to have a minimum duration of 5 seconds. Since I'm focusing on character animation, I decided to use the skills and techniques I learned from the course to create a short story. This is my first story-driven 2D creation and it had it's own quirks I had to figure out that usually don't pop up when working in Maya. The characters, props, and scenery were all created with Photoshop and Illustrator. All animation and effects were created using After Effects. Links to the music I used (which also include information on purchasing those works) can be found here: "Background Music" - https://soundcloud.com/royalty-freemusic/background-music "First Love" - http://youtu.be/iiqeEM7JPRo?list=RDHFhRWUHGM8s

One of the early projects for my summer Motion Media course. The focus of this project was just to work on character animation in After Effects. I have made a few touch-ups to the background and shot composition since the original due date. The animation is still a little rough, but I think it turned out pretty nice for an early project.

This is an old animatic I created for my storyboarding course. The goal was to create a short story using three assigned images as (loose) inspiration. I was given an old gentleman, a person in a hazmat suit, and a forest. The story is about an old man longing for the fun of his youth and discovers he can still experience the joy of his childhood. I kept the old man, let the hazmat suit become a costume for the boy, and the forest became a treehouse. At some point, I hope to go back and work with this idea a bit more to create a full animated short. Also, sorry if the sounds get a bit annoying. I had to use stock effects, so the "voice work" is pretty goofy. Music: "To Our Surprise" by Yoko Shimomura "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black

This was an experiment with expressive mark making in animation. We were given a random sequence of photos (in my case, a running dog) and the goal was to use it as part of a 10 second animation. The song clip is from "The Dog Days are Over" by Florence + The Machine and all rights of the song belong to the group.

The goal was to use a "flour sack-like" character and show a change in emotion from a small emotion (content in this case) into a consideration pose then into a big action (pain/fear). When I thought of a flour-sack character, Kirby immediately came to mind. Kirby is copyright of Nintendo and Hal Laboratories

For this project, I wanted to use a female character as up to that point I had not used many female rigs. I also wanted to use some dialog that had a bit more emotion. The other two lip syncs I had done were well acted but pretty neutral on emotion. For this project, I wanted to use a female character as up to that point I had not used many female rigs. As the title suggested, the goal was to find reference for a complicated/complex action (figure skating, dance, martial arts, etc.) and make a short animation. I chose diving. Specifically, I used this video (http://youtu.be/kAZSphX1xMM?t=18s), from 0:18 - 0:23, for reference. Also, my professor has stated he likes having sketched/sketchy background, secondary character or effects. That said, enjoy my quickly sketched splash animation I drew for the end.

The goal for this project was to focus on making the character physically interact with objects in the shot while also showing a reaction to a sound.
