Filene's Matt Davis and Currency Marketing's Tim McAlpine say they are not conference creators/developers by any stretch. Could've fooled me -- and all the others that have attended their highly successful CU Water Cooler Symposium (October 17-18, 2013, Nashville, TN) events for the past three years. Both Tim and Matt have described this gathering not so much as a conference, but an event where passionate credit union folks can listen and exchange ideas at a very high level. Each year, this "unconference" sells out, giving the stage to some of the industry's top thinkers and doers. It's an event that discusses topics most other shows won't touch with a 100-ft. cellular antenna -- like inviting a prominent banker to present (last year!). It was a brilliant move that really sparked CU attendees talking and looking at themselves from a totally different perspective. Can you say, reality check? But this controversy, if you will, is to be expected at the CU Water Cooler Symposium. Seasoned attendees look forward to this feather ruffling and usually revel in it. Anyway, it's always an adventure chatting with Matt and Tim, two guys -- as well as most of you know -- who are extremely passionate about making this industry the best it can be and more. The CU Water Cooler Symposium is a show unlike any other and I invite you all to check out this episode to discover why Tim and Matt are so humble about hosting a wickedly successful show that will fuel your credit union fire. Check it out! Also, if you are considering attending, register now for the early bird special, which expires July 31. Visit: www.cuwatercooler.com www.currencymarketing.ca www.filene.org

We all know the importance of cross-selling for credit unions and on today's show we take it a step further with Micronotes' cross-sell technology for digital banking. Micronotes Christian Klacko explains how his company uses big-data analytics and interview technology to help digital banking customers (credit union members) get more out of their banking relationship -- and drive cross-sales for financial institutions. Applying this technology is USAlliance Federal Credit Union's Kris VanBeek who provides a number of examples how his credit union has benefited from this cross-sell technology to enhance member relationships. Tons of practical and educational content in this episode, so don't miss it if you want to enhance your credit union's cross-selling activities. Some things just seem to be a sure thing: sun rising in the east, two-year-olds drawing on walls with Marks-a-Lots (my house), Chicago Cubs not winning a World Series, and Belvoir Federal Credit Union's annual online WebHunt campaign. For four years running, Belvoir has implemented its WebHunt venture, an online scavenger hunt of its website for members to find hidden icons strategically placed on specific pages. The credit union has garnered tremendous results each year it has launched it summertime campaign. And this year, it exceeded all expectations once again. So we invited Belvoir's Amy McConnell on the show to find out what the heck WebHunt is and how it has tremendously benefited the credit union -- along with members. Oh yeah, we discuss the amazing results of this year's campaign, as well. So if you're looking to succeed with an online branding/cross-sell campaign, check out this interview with Amy McConnell. Personal finance management continues to make headlines in today's online financial services environment. To get a better perspective on how important and beneficial PFM can be for credit unions and their members, we invited Geezeo's President & Co-Founder Peter Glyman on the program to discuss this topic and more. We also talked about Filene's recent finding that only 6% of today's credit union members are using PFM tools. We asked Peter why this number is so low and how can it be raised? In addition, we touched on three things credit unions can look for in a quality PFM solution, along with the burgeoning mobile apps on the horizon. Many thanks for Peter being on the show. CUNA's 2013 America's Credit Union Conference is next week. To get a quick preview, we invited CUNA's President/CEO Bill Cheney on the program for an inside look on the speakers, sessions, and events occurring between June 30 - July 3 in New York City. But the ACUC is only part of the discussion, as the big show will act as a motivator and message deliverer for attendees to spread nationwide about the virtues of credit unions. We all know the CU virtues, but a majority of the country doesn't. The industry is also in the midst of a major battle with banks regarding, yes once again, it's tax status. But this year is a bit different in that a new tax code will be decided upon and credit union's tax status for the next generations will be determined if not this year, then next year -- an election year. Bill joined our show and took the time to explain in great detail the importance for credit unions to be more than diligent in getting the word out about this issue -- much like Bank Transfer Day. Segueing on this topic, we discussed CUNA's two major campaigns running right now: "Don't Tax My Credit Union" and "Unite for Good". We also discussed many other issues along with a semi-inside look at the political maneuverings to lobby credit union issues to Congress. Fascinating content -- especially in the second half of the interview where Bill is quite candid about this subject matter. So, as you travel to the Big Apple this weekend to attend the ACUC 2013, take some time and check out our in-depth and compelling conversation with Mr. Cheney. I'm sure it will spark a few questions and comments from you to ask him next week during the show. Enjoy!
