18 January 2011 marks two years since the end of the brutal conflict in Gaza and southern Israel. A UN fact finding mission documented war crimes and serious human rights violations committed by both sides during the conflict. Yet two years on, both sides have completely failed to credibly investigate these incidents and so the long suffering victims are still being denied justice. We simply cannot win such a peaceful future by ignoring the violations of the past. Now is the time to put human rights and human lives ahead of short-term politics – and to win truth, justice and reparations for all the victims of the Gaza conflict. Now 20 years have passed since the genocide in Rwanda, and we see history repeat itself. Through the film we rise issues concerning racial theories, national socialism, and international law concerning genocide and crimes against humanity. At this moment court cases are held against people who took part in the genocide in Rwanda in Germany and France. This is contextualised by the rise of right-wing extremism in Europe in recent years, and Anders Behring Breiviks attack on the labour-youth summer camp on Utøya on the 22/7/2011. «Rough Cut» will be released on Norwegian cinemas in the Fall of 2014.

This film provides an introduction to 'the Rape of Nanking' and other Japanese atrocities in China during the second Sino-Japanese War (running up to and including World War II). Following the fall of Nanking on 13 December 1937, the Japanese army raped up to 80,000 women and killed an estimated 300,000 PoWs and civilians in the city over the following six weeks. It was to mark the start of a campaign in which they would slaughter at least 12.5m Chinese civilians in addition to casualties of war, through further massacres, slave labour, and large-scale use of biological weapons or 'germ warfare'. The film features photographs from the period, cut with contemporary footage of sites where atrocities took place and interviews with survivors. This Aegis Trust film was made in collaboration with the Global Alliance for the Preservation of the History of World War II in Asia (GA).
