A long cool growing season on the Carneros Estate helped guide this year’s Sauvignon Blanc in for a super gentle landing. Beautifully balanced vines provided even ripening and perfect fruit. We gently squeezed these grapes and collected the delicate, aromatic juice in a stainless steel tank where we could protect it from air and lead it through a long, very cool fermentation. Aged on it’s lees in stainless steel, the wine retains all the pretty passion fruit, gooseberry, lemongrass and kiwi fruit to pair with the linden, honeysuckle and beeswax notes on the nose. A lively, beaming Sauvignon blanc with refreshing fruit and a long crisp finish, with some minerality and bright fruit.

The Two Estates wines pairs Cabernet Sauvignon from our Brandlin Vineyard with Cuvaison Estate grown Merlot without regard to making a varietally designated wine. The goal is to create a blend that pairs, in the most delicious way possible, these two bordelaise varieties, highlighting the strengths of both vineyards. In 2007 I used 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot. A cool vintage that saw both varieties ripening mid to late October coined wines that had similar fruit tones, with cassis and dark cherry notes dominating. This wine is multi-layered with plummy, black currant and raspberry notes set against a back drop of toasty oak, tea leaf and camphor. The Cabernet’s mountain tannins enrich the sinewy structure of the Merlot to fashion a more full bodied yet quite elegant wine that should age gracefully over the next 5 to 15 years.
