                  In these two installations, visitors physically slide their touch screens across the wall to reveal declassified records, while above them an overhead screen plays a video featuring secrecy posters from World War II. This interactive imaginatively blends mechanical and computer interactivity: visitors slide touch screen across a six-foot rail to discover the contents of sealed boxes. As visitors slide the monitor the screen reacts with compelling synchronized animations, revealing the records in the boxes positioned behind the screens. Each of the declassified records can be magnified, transcribed, and decoded on the touch screens through the Enhanced Record Viewer tool.                       With these two installations, visitors preview film clips in the National Archives and edit their own D-Day documentary that plays for the whole gallery on an overhead screen. In Reel D-Day visitors have the opportunity to do what thousands of filmmakers have done at the National Archives: research the holdings in pursuit of the historical accuracy of their films. Two editing stations let visitors select clips to edit six scenes of a short silent film which gets displayed on a large overhead screen for surrounding visitors to watch. This is installed in the “Provide for the Common Defense” Public Vault, which focuses on wars and diplomacy and where records from the Revolutionary War through the Persian Gulf War paint a vivid picture of heroism, inspiration, and sacrifice over the decades.
