Built from an old Renault Garage in the center of Paris, near Place de la Bastille, Alain Ducasse's new chocolate factory was created with the willingness to get back to the roots of chocolate making : a careful, slow and patient work, craftsmanship and machines being as one. This short film gives us a vision of chocolate like we never see it, rough and sensual at the same time. "Make life sweeter... eat dessert first." This is the motto of Joanne Chang, pastry chef/owner of Flour Bakery in Boston. She has written a new book about her favorite dessert recipes. Working with Joanne and her staff was a breeze. And the fringe benefits were SWEET! I was fed sample treats throughout the day during the shoot! The book is called “Flour” and this is her story. I returned to Flour Bakery to shoot a few extra scenes for the film. These scenes show Joanne baking her favorite treat: the pain aux raisins brioche. My reward for coming back? A fresh, warm brioche filled with plump raisins and drizzled with sugary creamy icing. Take a look at the glee on Jo’s face as she bites into one! Nothing to see here really - some fun with food - This is just a little self shot, thrown together demo vid for a project I am working on with a friend to simply outline an idea for a future project - 2010. It's really hard to do this kind of thing by yourself...heehee. Thanks to Steven for the couple of handheld shots though.... Sound (bad since I just used the internal mic) and lighting is bad but it was fun to make nonetheless....

Went on the bummer to a rather staggering party at what used to be The Tunnel (and now they call it the Tobacco Warehouse). It was sponsored by the Food Network and Perrier Jouet so there was a lot of Champagne and all sorts of world class pastry chefs knocking out sweet stuff and a devilish selection of after dinner type drinks (scotch and port and absinthe). Too much fun. http://www.futureofthebook.org/itinplace/
