Chris Forsberg's 2014 Formula Drift season has been one to remember. Coming out of a tumultuous near-victory in the final round for the 2013 season, Chris found himself in need of a re-imaging. He went to the dark side. Since then, he and his team have achieved 5 podium wins in the first 5 rounds of competition, only falling short of a 6th podium by a few qualifying points. This video is a compilation of my footage from the first 6 rounds of the 2014 Formula Drift season. Chris has a narrow lead heading into Round 7. The championship title is still up in the air, but the message is clear: Chris Forsberg is going to fight his hardest to become Number One. Filmed and edited by Sam Nalven Additional footage by Hert Eugene JR, Stefanie Evans, Paco Ibarra, and Andy Laputka Special thanks the Chris Forsberg Racing team, Hooniverse, and Formula Drift.

My roommate used to have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. He bought new wheels for it, and the stock ones sat around rotting with fresh tread on them. Then my SR20 came along. It must feed. She's always hungry. Driving with old, 195/60/16 all seasons on the car was akin to ice skating. It was a blast, but very difficult to control at angle, and you can see people in tandem behind me getting frustrated that I was making a decent amount of smoke, but not really moving anywhere. This is the final event at Firebird Raceway. They closed their doors shortly after this event, and we likely wont have a track again until October. I have some ideas on how to make a few more drifting videos until then, but I'll have to wait and see which ones pan out. Thank you for watching, and I'm not going anywhere. I used to hang out with a group of Subaru kids. They would work on their cars, and I would watch, because I was bad at working on cars. I had little mechanical comprehension of motor basics or even how most things fit together. Then I bought a drift car, and had to learn. In my greatest mechanical achievement so far, and with the help of a few dedicated friends, we swapped an SR20DET into my drift car. There were a few head scratching moments, but thanks to it being the most well documented swap on the web and banding on things with a mallet until they worked, they motor fired up on the first try. I didn't have time to touch on it in the video, but it's not running perfectly. It still needs some work, but hey, I swapped out a motor, how hard can anything else in life be? I've also learned that the days of using a new set of tires for 2 events are over. The SR must be fed with a steady supply of fresh rubber, and I actually had to retire from this event early because I only brought 2 sets of %50 life tires, and chewed through those in about 25 runs. Drifting the SR is much different than drifting the KA. Low end torque is gone. If I tried to initiate drift without being on boost, it was pretty much guaranteed to fail. However, once the turbo party kicks in, it is significantly easier to hold skid for much longer and link the long sweeping corners of Firebird's West Track. This video depicts the best day of my life thus far. When I started drifting last July, I never really expected to be competitive, even locally. For that reason, I was hesitant to sign up for the Import Face-Off drift competition that was being held at the local track. However, when the Friday "for fun" event was cancelled due to rain, I decided that I wanted to get my track time, one way or the other, and signed up for the competition. On the day of the competition it was still raining heavily. Luckily, it stopped raining right before the scheduled practice session. Even without new rain coming down, the track was still slicker than something really slick (I don't know, use your imaginations). I didn't link a single run in the practice sessions. When my time came to qualify, I was not optimistic. But something clicked - some kind of mixture of clarity and rage, combined with the fact that everyone at the track had their eyes on me, and weren't expecting much, and as a result I performed the 2 best runs of my drifting career thus far. This led to my first tandem experience, my first head-to-head victory, and my first defeat at my own hands. Drifting will never be the same, and I can't wait. I always like thinking that getting shoes specifically for a certain task make you better at said task. When I was a little kid, I remember begging my parents for the newest skateboarding shoes and trying to sell them how essential they were for making me good at skating. My mom got me these Simpson racing shoes for Christmas pretty much without me asking, she probably just wanted to spare me the embarrassment of pleading with her to get them for me lest I should never be a good drifter. I'm not really sure if they made me better, but I was certainly stylin' on all of my friends this event. There was no tire changing station at this event, which was a first for me, and I showed up with only about 20% tread on my wheels hoping to just swap tires after a few runs. I was throwing sparks from the chords on one of the wheels until it blew up, and I had to put on an old, extremely worn tire just to make it home. I didn't get as many runs as I had wanted, but I will definitely try to be more prepared next time. E-braking was the dominant form of entry this event, and I even started to use it a little mid drift to maintain angle. Once I do something about this sad motor, I will definitely need to look into investing in a hydraulic setup. Also, some creepy guys wore onesies to the starting grid. I don't know who they were, but one of them had a beautiful mustache. HAPPY HOLIDAYS OR WHATEVER In this very special holiday edition of Drift Idiot, I turn my S14 into a reindeer, I barely run into stuff, and Formula Drift pro driver Corey Hosford drifts my car. Corey has a mustache so I assumed it wouldn't hurt if I also grew a mustache. I'm not sure if it has made me a better drifter but I don't think it hurt. Men have been giving me "thumbs up" and "high fives" when we come into contact, yet women seem repulsed and eager to disengage communication at the earliest opportune moment. I had a bunch more footage I wanted to show like me destroying my wrapping paper bumper and denting the frack out of one of my wheels, but "Christmas in Hollis" is only 3 minutes long and I decided months ago that I needed to use it for a Christmas Drift Idiot video. It's crazy the remind myself that I only began drifting 6 short months ago. Thank you all for your support and thank you for watching me suck less!
