Date: June 13, 2013 By: Daniel Whyte III Description: Egyptian Christians prepared to persevere whatever the outcome of the election. According to Mission News Network, votes have been cast, and polls have closed in Egypt's first-ever truly democratic presidential elections. Currently, Egypt is ranked as the fifteenth worst nation in the world in which to be a Christian, according to the Open Doors World Watch List. Harassment, imprisonment, and even death are not uncommon fates for believers who are vocal about their faith. Now, many believers speculate that the outcome of this week's presidential elections will cause more trouble for Christ-followers. Open Doors president Carl Moeller said, "With the parliamentary elections of last year, 75% of those elected were from the extremist or ultra-extremist views of Islam. And that is a very strong concern for the Christian community: if the president is elected along the same lines, that could spell a lot of additional pressure on the Egyptian Christian church." Experts say Iran has enough uranium for 5 nuclear bombs. According to Reuters, Iran has significantly stepped up its output of low-enriched uranium and total production in the last five years would be enough for at least five nuclear weapons if refined much further. The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), a think-tank which tracks Iran's nuclear program closely, based the analysis on data in the latest report by the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which was issued on Friday. Progress in Iran's nuclear activities is closely watched by the West and Israel as it could determine how long it could take Tehran to build atomic bombs, if it decided to do so. Iran denies any plan to and says its aims are entirely peaceful. Christian broadcasting group says 'new media' may try to limit Christian speech. According to CBN News, "New media" communications like Twitter, Facebook, Apple and Google are extremely popular these days. But Christian advocates, like the National Religious Broadcasters, say some of those companies could limit the American tradition of free speech. The NRB and the American Center for Law and Justice conducted a study on anti-Christian censorship on new-media platforms. They discovered that Apple twice removed applications that included Christian content from its iTunes app store because it considered the viewpoints expressed to be "offensive." The search engine giant Google refused to accept a pro-life advertisement from a Christian organization, which prompted a lawsuit in England. And the social networking site Facebook has partnered with homosexual rights advocates to prevent content they consider "anti-homosexual." Christian leaders are calling on these social media companies to voluntarily recognize free speech values. In closing, remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." Matthew 24:44 says, "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." If you are not ready, John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." May I encourage you to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour today so that you can be ready for Jesus Christ's return.

This past Sunday, Pastor Brendon Wu preached on FOUR chapters of Exodus - 7:14 to 10:29. As he went through the first nine plagues that God inflicted onto the Egyptians, our church was quickly brought to the realization that the idols built up by the people back then aren't too different from the idols that we build for ourselves today. We think that our idols can save us but we fail to realize that we only have a need for ONE savior. We think that we can simply repent for our sins with one statement of apology or a moment of pleading but we fail to realize that true repentance starts with a broken and contrite heart. We think that we deserve everything we have but we fail to see God's grace in our lives. This portion of Pastor Brendon's sermon focuses on how much grace we've been given through Jesus Christ because all of us can relate to someone like Pharaoh; we need to have a relationship with the Giver that keeps on giving to us.
