A workshop presented by the Northwest Biosolids Management Association featured two research scientists who have helped shape our understanding of potential risks from metals and contaminants when biosolids are used to improve soils and fertilize crops. Part 2. Rufus Chaney, U.S. Department of Agriculture Dr. Chaney focused on trace metals in biosolids-amended soils and how the presence of these have declined dramatically over the years due to pretreatment regulations and loss of industry. Dr. Chaney reviewed the risk pathway approach used in setting pollutant limits for the federal biosolids rule and highlighted how biosolids are now used to reclaim contaminated mine sites, returning them to ecosystems that support both plant and animal life. Hosted by King County at the South Treatment Plant, Renton, WA, July 27, 2012
