In most of the Southern Countries, many people are small farmers and they have a great potential to improve their income, but they are blocked by a lack of information on what crop to grow, how to grow it, or access to proper market to sell their harvest, and a capital to make the initial investment to start a new kind of crop. Project Alba’s concept is to provide everything that the farmer needs to grow a new crop that has a better potential revenue. They provide them the tools, the seeds, the fertilizer, and more importantly, they provide a regular support team that can advise the farmer twice a week by visiting him/her on the field and give them everything they need. All this help is given for free and the farmers doesn’t have to invest anything.

In Vietnam –as in many developing countries– women and children in the countryside spend a lot of time to gather wood to be used as a combustible to cook food, preventing children from going to school, and women to do anything else than preparing food. Moreover, cooking with wood makes the kitchen a polluted environment, resulting in many lung diseases. By introducing solar cookers, which can be used most of the year, Solar Serve can help those poor populations to have better life standards, while at the same time protecting the environment.

1001 Fountains aims at giving access to purified water to villagers in Cambodia. They developed an hybrid model, which relies on funding to buy the water treatment units. Once the unit is bought, 1001 Fountains, through its Cambodian sister company Teuk Saat, finds entrepreneurs in villages who are willing to operate the station. Then Teuk Saat builds the station and trains the entrepreneur to operate the station. The water is then sold by the entrepreneur at the price of 0,1$ per liter so that even the poorest Cambodians can buy it. Once the station is running , the entrepreneur is operating the station as a franchise: if the station is doing well and he is selling a lot of water he keeps the benefits while paying Teuk Saat a monthly fee that helps the company pay its employees and develop its activities, as a classical entreprise would do. Thanks to that hybrid model, 1001 Funtains is able to provide access to pure water in about 50 villages in Cambodia, while ensuring the sustainability of its action.
