This is the test movie made with the audio-visual software environment developed by myself and Kavi in Bournemouth in 2010. Blob motion tracking of an object in Flash sends OSC to Max for Live, triggering clips and controller data. With communication between these programs now running smoothly we intend to adapt the system for gallery (or site specific) installation. A participant enters a room, with coloured paths marked on the floor. A camera looks down on them, tracking their location, and therefore allowing them to control the music.

“PULSE” is a sound installation that creates interactive soundscapes in real-time. “PULSE” has been created by musicians Shaun Bailey and Clive Mollart of MonkeyTrial, and by the sculptor Tim Potts. In this installation soundscapes are created and controlled by software developed by Shaun Bailey. Interaction with the sculpture produces soundscapes in real-time, and 'of the moment'. The sculpture inspired by the movement of a sound wave, is formed from resin with a rough tactile surface to specifically encourage interaction and exploration of the piece. Sensors mounted in the sculpture give visitors the opportunity to interact with the soundscape and the sounds produced are always within the context of the music, triggering the same sensor twice may often produce different results. Alternatively, should visitors just want to listen, the technology detects when the sensors are idle and will then react by creating more elements within the soundscape.

‘Subtitled’, MA Sculpture Thesis show, Winchester School of Art, Winchester, UK, 2004. 'Subtitled' consisted of an accumulation of found and made objects staged for human interaction, resulting in a different experience depending on the extent of the viewer’s involvement. Space was structured based on visual and physical clues; objects obstructing the path or forcing the viewer to stop and read or manipulate parts of the installation, notes hidden in plain sight, seemingly random hints, movements and sounds.

This film documents a 3.7 second shot blasting at an aggregate quarry. The stone is Pre-Cambrian, 1,000 million years old, too old for fossils. The stone will be crushed into 10mm scalpings to make roads and runways. The stone is valued for it's lack of shine and it's non-skid properties. Please listen with a sub-woofer turned on and up. Enjoy. This film was made whilst artist in residence at a working aggregate quarry and was generously supported by ACW, Elbowroom and Tarmac.

The video is recorded during the exhibition "Unfinished: Experimental Exhibit on the Holocaust." The idea of the exhibit is to demonstrate and to share the experience of Holocaust with the audience via the design of the space and time. The video quality is relatively low, and isn't very carefully done. I apologize. If you have any concern or questions about the project, please email me at kluo@syr.edu. I'm happy to tell you more about it.
