Each year at MOBGEN we organise a christmas decor competition. This year our team of ui ux designers put together this interactive analog christmas art installation within 16 hours, and yes we won :). Brent Rovers and Martijn Kroneman made this awesome video, I worked out the concept inspired by Niels Shoe Meulman, Maikel Haas, Daniel Campo, Silviu Agapi and I put the concept into motion and build the installation. And of course big ups to everybody at MOBGEN for there participation, we are all creators.

Our sense of the past is created in the present. Memory is not an archive to be searched but a process of connection and reconstruction based on subconscious rules. Extracted from Super8 film reels purchased at a street market, The Shape of Memory (2006) is a collection of frames removed from their original timeline and reconnected by visual rules. As a surrogate memory process, computer software was created that searches every frame of film to find formal, compositional matches (such as color and mass). Each image in The Shape of Memory connects to the previous one through the strict rules of this 'memory' algorithm while breaking its previous contextual connections to place and time.

Encounter(s) is an interactive immersive audio/visual environment focusing on the concept of introspection, tranquility and transformation. At various times in our lives we are faced with thought-provoking situations that force us to stop and contemplate our very existence. It is through these encounters that transformative moments occur. Participants enter an immersive, abstract sonic and visual world, and are enticed to sit in a centrally located seat. When the participant sits, he/she triggers the emergence of a distant, abstracted human image. This animated, ghost-like, ethereal figure slowly moves toward the participant. The figure represents the self, a friend or loved one, a God, shaman, spiritual figure, or other virtual presence. When the figure arrives in front of the participant, it asks an introspective question. After a moment of contemplation, the figure retreats into the distance and transforms into a tree-like form that metaphorically represents self-actualization and growth. As more trees develop, they become a forest of influences that help define the essence of our existence. As an immersive installation, Encounter(s) reflects our inherent curiosity and uncertainties about the self, life, and the unknown. Since an individual's understanding of the world is determined by their experiences, each participant's encounter with the installation can be interpreted in a variety of ways. The immersive visual and sonic environment coupled with the virtual presence of the figure invites the participant to engage in meditation, contemplation, self-actualization, confrontation, or enlightenment.

A walkthrough of an installation titled 'Invitation,' created in the Spring of 2012 by Cecilia Major. This piece was made during Major's last semester at Montserrat College of Art for completion of the fine arts seminar. At the entrance, words written on the wall ask viewers to enter the tunnel and write or draw on the walls. The viewer is also asked to "leave me a sorrow, leave me your anger, leave me some fear." The responses on the walls in this video are the result of a 5 day exhibition of the piece in "Depth," a show of the work of senior seminar students at Montserrat College of Art.

At the Podium. About 2"x2"x3.5". Mixed Media; wood, glass, light, fan, light sensitive theremin. "At the Podium" is an interactive piece in which the viewer is invited to stand at. All one can do is turn on the switch and then toggle the dimmers; one which controls a light, and the other controls the speed of a fan. A theremin uses a photo-electric transmitter and emits a tone that varies depending on the light that hits it.
