EDIT 3/21/11: The north-east coast of Japan was severely affected by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. Please consider making a donation to the Japanese Red Cross Society to help the victims of this natural disaster: http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html --------------------- The final stop of my sightseeing tour of Japan was at Mt. Koya, or Koyasan, which was a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Koyasan is located roughly 2 hours south of Kyoto. Sitting atop this somewhat isolated mountain are dozens of Buddhist temples. Far away from the busy cities of Japan, this location gives off an eerie but amazing feel, especially when exploring the nearby cemetery in the town. One of the more interesting experiences was my stay at a shukubo, or temple lodging, where I got to stay at an actual temple, eat food prepared by monks, and participate in the morning ceremonies (I'm crushed because I lost the footage of the ceremony!). Of all the locations I visited in Japan, Koyasan was the most life-changing and awe-inspiring. Camera: Canon T2i Lens: Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di-II
