Sometimes I like to make home videos. Here's some random highlights of my recent road trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan. We spent the 4th of July there, and this is how we celebrated. I shot this on a Canon 5D Mark II. Additional footage shot by Jesse Brown. Music : "Deadbeat Summer" by Neon Indian

The Bluebird's movie "Dobre Hombres" premier went beyond my expectations. More than a movie, it was more like a documentation of what represents the snowboarding lifestyle of the Jackson Hole snowboarding community. If I had to define the movie to someone, I'd define it as a chop suey of heavy metal, from the lifestyle of Marc Carter on his ranch with sweet lines in the back country, to Adam Dowel with his switch back 180's on cliffs, to John Makens, the owner and creator of Insoles, doing ollie pillow lines like there is no tomorrow. Next is Guch. He shows everyone how to turn and snowboard from tip to toe with class, power. Mix that with some tech moves in the back country. I wonder why he was part of the Burton Global team during the golden years? Blake Paul and Alex Yodler have sick shoots representing the new breath of the Jackson Hole snowboarding community. MFM, Wastell, Chuck T, Clancy, etc. Last but not least, Mr. Kevin Jones playing on the terrain like Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead would treat a whore. Tree pillows lines, vertical walls, and he tops that all off with an avalanche. I applaud Jesse Brown, owner of Jackson Hole Magazine, for all his hard work and dedication filming this top class movie. Also big thanks to Willie Macmilion. He worked in the shadow but did an awesome job narrating, editing, and directing, proving that you don't need a huge budget to create a fantastic movie:)

My two favorite things are snowboarding and art, and they usually get in the way of each other. Doing the cover for the Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine was a great opportunity to merge these two aspects of my life into a single project and I was happy with the outcome. I think of my painting as a meditative dream space where I allow my thoughts to wander, collect bits and pieces from my experience of the world and make pictures out of them. My painting usually relates to some kind of mythological experience, I think of mythologies or religion as organized and communicable versions of that dream space. I use the ape figure in my art as a sign of the primal urges in us as people, our animal roots. The skulls show a human confrontation with the infinite, danger or death. Snowboarding is also a way of using pieces of the world around you and arranging them into an experience. In this way they relate to each other. I wanted to do a piece about building jumps. The act of building a jump is a great example of seeing something in the world around you and arranging it into an experience. You see something unique in the terrain, a path, a gap, a trajectory, a landing, you see something that most people wouldn't look twice at. Sometimes you spend minutes making it work and sometimes you spend hours, but because of your vision, it almost always works out. It is one of the most rewarding ways of spending a day with friends that I know of.
