Check out my new website at http://www.tomguilmette.com for blogs and more. This video was shot in a few hours at Ashland State Park in Massachusetts. The weather was finally beginning to warm up and people were out enjoying the outdoors. I brought my PMW-EX1 camcorder with the Letus Extreme, a Vinten Vision 3 tripod, my homemade dolly system, three lenses and two filters. I used PVC pipe and my dolly for the slow slides and trucks. I do have to be careful because even a speck of dirt makes the camera vibrate in the dolly system. The three lenses I used was a Sigma 18mm f3.5, a Nikon 24mm f2.8 and a Nikon 300mm f4 telephoto. I used the telephoto lens to get tight shots of people fishing from across the lake. I also used it to get shots of the turtles basking in the sun. I recycled a few shots from previous trips to the lake. The macro shots of the Garder snakes was from a video I shot a month ago called “Snake Eye View”. I used a Nikon 55mm f2.8 macro lens for these intimate snake shots. I used a Tiffen 52mm circular polarizing filter to help with the sky and water reflections. This made the water a deep dark hue and created a very blue sky. I also used a four point start filter for the sun smear you see at the end of the video. I edited this in Final Cut Pro and color graded with Magic Bullet Looks. I over-saturated the colors in the video. 12,500+ photographs, 3,000+ miles driving, 250 miles hiked, and 500 hours later, I am very happy to present to you, Light Of The Night. A short film capturing just a small sample of the beautiful New England star filled landscapes. Putting this short film together has been one of the most incredible journeys I've yet to embark on. Traveling from place to place, hiking hundreds of miles of New England's trail systems, meeting a an awesome bunch of other photographers along the way, the lovely and unpredictable New England weather, and last but not least spending so much time under the stars, are the memories that I will remember for a life time. I couldn't thank my friends enough for being a part of this project in one way or another! Whether it was hanging out while shooting photos, hiking out to spots, taking long drives from place to place, answering technical questions, putting up with me sitting at the computer every day for a month straight, you have all helped out so much!

Check out my website at: http://www.tomguilmette.com I shot a quick and dirty behind the scenes at the Boston Garden yesterday while we set up for the Bruins game. I have the privilege of using the $130,000 Sony HDC-3300 HD SuperMo broadcast camera. I find this technology very interesting and I have tried to explain it in layman's terms. UPDATE: Someone emailed me...I was a little low with the retail price, the camera actually retails for $270,000.00 without the lens. If you do not believe me, look here: http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_room /b2b/broadcast_production/release/9092.html ...But maybe you can get it used for $130,000? This short explains how the camera works, how it is recorded/played back and why it is important to be able to capture fast action sports at 90 frames per second. I have also written two blogs about this camera on my website, please check out: http://www.tomguilmette.com/wp/my-blog/archives/310 and http://www.tomguilmette.com/wp/my-blog/archives/326 Game footage courtesy of New England Sports Network. Sorry it is in standard def and 4:3, I did not have time to get it off the HD melt reel.

This October, we did a hiking and leaf peeping trip through beautiful New England (Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut) for just 12 days. It was right at the same time as the US government shutdown which turned out to be a rather odd experience. This is a collection of moments and thoughts.
