I love making clothes. Always have. A few years ago I earned my BFA in Menswear, and learned how to create patterns from my own drawings, and sew original garments. Lately, I've been working for a local company as their lead men's designer, helping to get a couple private-label brands up off the ground with some really sharp collections. Much of my work is now done on the computer, and our manufacturing is sourced from overseas. That's cool. It enables me to focus more on the creative bits, instead of sewing all day long. But sometimes I miss getting to work directly with the fabric; finding out what I can and can't do with my little Singer. So that's where this video comes in. From finding design details in magazines to sketching, from patternmaking to cutting, and from sewing to pressing, I tried to use some of the skills I've developed over the years to make a nice chambray work shirt for myself. This is my first ever time-lapse video, and also my first try at editing a video in Final Cut Pro X. Hope you like it! -Steven W. P.S. The song is called "Something Good Can Work (RAC Remix) by Two Door Cinema Club. Check 'em out.

Episode seven of Put This On explores personal style - elegant, quirky, distinctive and everywhere in between. Field correspondent Dave Hill visits the annual meeting of the Corduroy Appreciation Club, held each year on 11/11, the date which most resembles corduroy. Then Roxana Altamirano brings a new Nerd Boyfriend segment, with an investigation of an icon of eccentric style, Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000 of Outkast. Plus: a conversation with one of the world's most elegant men, Gay Talese. He's not just one of America's most celebrated magazine writers and the man who invented the contemporary magazine profile. He's also one of the best-dressed men in the world, the son of an immigrant tailor who imbued in his progeny a love of fine clothing. Besides that, he's got his own lapel shape!

Put This On, a web series about dressing like a grownup, visits New York City, a place where style is defined and redefined through interpretation and reinterpretation. Meet the 'Lo Heads. With roots in 1980s street gangs, these Polo Ralph Lauren enthusiasts have made "aspirational apparel" a lifestyle. They once had to boost their Polo from stores and fight to keep it on the streets. Today, their culture is worldwide, promulgated by hip-hop. Their hero is Ralph Lauren - a working class New Yorker who understood that the fantastical power of style can be transformative. Dallas Penn from The Internets Celebrities, a dedicated Lo Head (and former member of the Decepts crew) with a collection of over 1000 pieces of Polo apparel takes us on a tour of this remarkable fashion subculture. Visit Worth & Worth hat shop, a New York institution with roots going back to 1922. In recent memory, Orlando Palacios has made the shop a home for rockers as well as traditionalists, turning hundred-year-old machines to the task of reinterpreting hundred-year-old styles. Meet Jason Marshall, a jazz saxaphonist with a classic style. He plays with bands ranging from traditional bop to hip-hop fusion to Aretha Franklin, but he prefers to wear tailored clothes when he does it, and explains why. And in our Q & Answer segment, find out how to pack your suit for travel. We'll show you a fold to keep it neat inside a rolling carry-on or suitcase, and we'll show you how to keep your trousers on the hanger inside a garment bag.

Focused on design, process, material, and craft—Raleigh Denim uses the history and techniques of traditional American jean-making, producing jeans which marry old-school methods with modern fits. It's always a thrill working with people that are so dedicated to their craft. Victor and Sarah, along with their crew at Raleigh Denim Workshop were no exception. The more time we spent with them, the more we fell in love with the experience and product they have to offer. It was inspiring really. With a belief that people should buy less stuff, but better stuff, they operate with a clear and distinct vision focused around quality. — Directed by Austin Simmons and Josh Sliffe Shot & Edited by Remedy Original Music by Arithmetic from http://themusicbed — http://raleighworkshop.com http://workbyremedy.co

Jason Ryan www.byjasonryan.com Jason Ryan’s daring designs debuted on the runway this season during Style Fashion Week LA. His avant-garde menswear collection, entitled “Love, Corrida,” was inspired by the carefully crafted courtship of the Toreador and his bull—each unaware of their fate. Jason Ryan’s passion for design and illustration has existed from an early age—constructing dresses for his mother out of ordinary household items. He attended schools in both New York and Los Angeles and has designed for such companies as Redken/L’Oreal, BeBe, and Walt Disney Entertainment. Fueled by his ballsy attitude, extensive knowledge in garment construction and costuming, as well as his strong work ethic, Jason’s vision and attention to detail will no longer go unnoticed. Now is his time to grab the bull by the horns…
