This is a new high definition (HD) dramatic video choreographed to powerful music that introduces the viewer/student to Hurricanes. It is designed as a motivational "trailer" to be shown by teachers in Physical Science, Earth Science and Meteorology classrooms in middle school, high school and college as a visual Introduction to the nature of these powerful storms and their impact on us all. Subscribe to my channel at https://vimeo.com/channels/114270 to see all of my exciting video trailers in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science and Astronomy. I will be releasing new ones periodically. You can also download all of my videos for free from Vimeo. Just click on the "Download" tab under the video description. Please rate this video and feel free to comment. If you like it, please help me spread the word by posting links to it on your school and social media websites. The more students who can enjoy these dramatic videos, the better! I wish to thank all the quality video and music producers whose postings enabled me to assemble this video for educational use. Benchmarking CFD simulation of atmospheric flow. A thermal bubble of 500 m diameter is released 10 m over ground in a neutral dry atmosphere. The temperature of the initialised thermal is 0.5 K larger than the ambient air temperature. Shortly after initialisation, the thermal starts to rise and develop a pair of counter-rotating persistent eddies in the lower half of the domain. We used an eddy-resolving FEM formulation to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The simulation was performed in two dimensions, with a domain size of 1 km x 1 km in the horizontal and vertical. Note, that turbulent eddies have been resolved, no turbulence model is applied. The fluid domain is bounded by no-slip walls which determine the symmetric mixing character of the flow field. Please find our other benchmark simulations on Vimeo.
