cmiVFX Releases New Intro to Motion Builder Video Guide High Definition Training Videos for the Visual Effects Industry Princeton, NJ (September 24th, 2014) cmiVFX is joined by instructor Peter Divers from Weta Digital (makers of The Hobbit, Iron Man, etc.) to release the first video in a massive, high-end video series that introduces you to motion capture in Autodesk's Motion Builder. This series of video guides will take you from the beginning all the way through to finish. It will include importing and characterizing different motion capture data types, transferring motion onto different characters (including prop animation), and more. We'll even bring it up to the next level by blending takes together and doing corrective animations on top of the original data for a nicer finish. Welcome to the Motion Builder Video Guide. Enjoy your journey! Vimeo Teaser Trailer https://vimeo.com/106954480 Short Description Peter Divers from Weta Digital introduces you to motion capture in Autodesk's Motion Builder. NOTICE TO VIEWERS This lesson has been created to allow the viewers to follow with the P.L.E. or trial versions of Motion Builder. http://www.autodesk.com/products/motionbuilder/free-trial Also, in the near future a more advanced series will be released on advanced motion editing techniques so you can take the finished quality even further. |||||||||| INTRODUCTION TO MOTION CAPTURE IN AUTODESK MOTION BUILDER |||||||||||| https://cmivfx.com/store/614-Intro-to-Motion-Capture-in-Autodesk-MotionBuilder Chapter Descriptions Setup We'll start by importing our character and prop and then characterizing the two using the character extension method. We'll also import our motion capture data and characterize this the same way. These assets will be prepared in a way that allows for a very modular workflow. Re-Targeting The focus of this chapter is on Re-Targeting motion from our motion capture to our character and prop. We can ease this Re-Targeting by making use of the different options in our character settings for Re-Targeting, adjusting arms, root level, chest, and feet. Blending Takes This chapter addresses the very common and sometimes complex task of re-orienting takes, and blending takes together in the 'story mode' to create more detailed and better flowing animations. Corrective Animations To fix up a things in the re-targeting process, we'll be plotting our motion onto an HIK control rig within motion builder to make these adjustments. This allows us to animate using layers on top of our motion capture data. We will also start looking into auxiliary effectors and further parenting. Further Animations It's time to add more creative layered animations to our takes. First we'll look into basic foot adjustments and the pose controls for hands. For the conclusion we'll create a finished playblast from motion builder and plot our animation back to our original skeleton. About the Instructor Peter Divers is a character animator and motion editor currently working at Weta Digital in New Zealand. He has over seven years of experience working with motion capture on stage and in post processing, and he's worked on some of the largest visual effect films to be made in recent years, including "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", "The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug" and the highly anticipated "Battle of the Five Armies." He has a passion for animation that can't be matched, which be evident in his short film "A Dreamy Tale..." which aims to be released in late 2015. This video shows you how to create real-time facial animation from a video camera, webcam, or headcam, and stream it onto any character in MotionBuilder. In this example I'm using a lower resolution, 30fps usb webcam to demonstrate the ease of use. A higher frame-rate (60+) camera is recommended for higher quality lip sync and more responsive facial motion.
