A massive multi-touch table that lets you explore the past and create a nostalgic Lifeline of your own. We’ve worked closely with the team at the National Library of New Zealand over several years now, we’ve tested the concept at various stages (even way back as a paper prototype) to be sure we can achieve our goal, and, through a careful prototyping process, we’ve even built the ground-breaking hardware ourselves to enable the vision to be realised in the new building. The team at Digital NZ have worked hard to supply us with the content and other partners like NZ On Screen have come on board to supply great videos that fit in with the Lifelines concept. We hope these partnerships will grow over time as we extend the experience. On the National Library blog Paddy Plunket described what visitors can expect: http://beta.natlib.govt.nz/blog/posts/a-cruisy-saturday-shopping-trip “Lifelines will give people visiting the Library an opportunity to discover the content in our collections through their own personal history – the times they have lived in, their family name and the places in New Zealand they know.” Discover it for yourself in the new National Library building from December 2012. The National Library Corner of Molesworth and Aitken Streets Wellington, New Zealand

A showcase of our new installation for the grand reopening of the National Library of New Zealand. The set up includes three interactive models, on three high-end PCs, displayed through three synchronised 60" LED TVs. Past Wellington (1840) is based on drawings, paintings and sketches from the National Library Archives. It includes early settlements, the pre-1855 earthquake shoreline, the original paths of streams and the Pipitea Marae. Present Wellington (2012) has been created with data from Wellington City Council. Future Wellington (2150) is a parametrically generated green city, with algae towers, day-lit streams, food farms and a sea wall to cope with sea level rise. The vision was created by Auckland University Master of Architecture student, David Wong.
