I really love the new opportunities that Magic Lantern has given the creative world. There are endless possibilities to edit and grade images like never before, without spending thousands of euros in order to get this kind quality. This time I went outside with beautiful Eva to enjoy the sun and find out, what magic lantern is all about. As a result I created this film. /// Credits Direction, Editing and Filming: Edgar Berg Model: Eva Pramschüfer @ NoToys modelmanagement Music: Ritual Union (PRFFTT & Svyable X Manila Killa Remix) /// Equipment Camera: Canon 5D Mark II Lenses: Tamron 24-70 mm 2.8 VC, Canon EF 85mm 1.8 Card: Transcend 32gb 1000x Magic Lantern Version: Nightly Build, Date: 2014-01-25 Thanks for watching and have a look at my fashion photography as well: http://www.edgarberg.com / http://www.facebook.com/edgarbergphotography

These clips were shot with the magic lantern nightly build 10/13/13. They we're converted from raw using Raw Magic on a mac. I color corrected in Lightroom 4 and exported each shot as .tiff files. The .tiff files we're opened in Quicktime 7 as an image sequence and exported as Pro-Res 422 HQ The Pro-Res files we're opened in FCP 7 and placed on a 1920x1080 422 HQ timeline and exported as a final video. The video was converted using Mpeg stream clip to h.246 10,000 kbs and uploaded to Vimeo. At the end there are two split screen shots. The magic lantern Raw vs. a h.264 Both shots used the same camera, settings, focus and lenses. We just swapped between a regular CF card and the one with the magic lantern software. The h.264 was converted to pro-res and color corrected in "Apple Color". Feel free to ask any questions

The announcement about RAW recording on the 5dMK3 intrigued me so much that I finally picked one up. I've been on the fence about the camera as I'm NOT a fan of the DSLR video look and frankly it's a tool I usually avoid. However the idea of such improved image quality made it interesting once again. After today's experience the RAW functionality will be useful for specific shots while the remainder of a project could be captured using the standard video function. Here's the video with the side by side comparison's that are imho more than convincing, even with limitations this makes DSLR film making and footage gathering more interesting than ever. IMAGES PROCESSED on a PC using raw2dng.exe then IMPORTED on A MAC to CS6 After Effects Edited in Premiere on a MAC - it's time consuming but the results are beautiful CAMERA SETTINGS: Technicolor CineStyle was enabled for all shooting, everything else was default. POST: the h.264's are untouched, the RAW files were processed minimally to ensure the highlights/shadows weren't clipping for maximum dynamic range.
