Lofoten is a group of islands in the northern part of Norway. With its postcard-looking small fishing villages nestled in fjords, dotting a very rugged coast with abrupt peaks rising directly from the ocean, the archipelago is often described as one of the most scenic parts of Norway. At 68 degrees north, the Lofoten archipelago is well above the arctic circle, and at the same latitude as Greenland or the northern parts of Alaska. However, it enjoys a relatively milder climate due to the circulation of the Gulf Stream. Still, it remains a subarctic destination, the weather changes fast, and even in the summer it may become cold. The main attraction of the archipelago is its majestic scenery. The coastline is dominated by high mountains cut by fjords, as well as sandy white beaches, which makes this place a popular destination for photographers. I planned my trip for March as I was hoping that the introduction of spring would bring slightly warmer weather and I had planned to do a lot of hiking in Lofoten so I could see the stunning 360 degree panoramic views which I have seen many other photographers achieve. Unfortunately a couple of days prior to my arrival there was a huge snow storm so the beautiful vibrant colourful landscape that I was so desperate to see had vanished, along with all of the hiking trails. I did attempt to go out hiking a few times despite the locals advising against it and to be perfectly honest, it just wasnt worth it. This was a huge disappointment but my spirits were soon to be lifted because a couple of days later I spent an amazing evening watching the mesmerising aurora borealis meandering across the night sky. The snow was definitely here to stay during my 5 day trip so I decided to make the most of what I had around me, which meant shooting a lot more around sea level, and I was pleasantly surprised with the footage I managed to capture. I had the beautiful Olstind mountain practically on my doorstep and was able to witness some beautiful sunsets, and in the early mornings there would be thick fog floating above the fjord which was very surreal, and I am really pleased how the timelapse captured the movement. The film took a completely different direction as it changed from my initial idea of vibrant, scenic, picturesque views to a more dramatic and slightly ominous atmosphere. I still feel I have managed to capture some of the natural beauty of this fantastic location, but I know that one day I will return to Lofoten, most likely during the summer :-) Music: Fightstar- Follow Me Into The Darkness Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoy my film.

One month in - more or less - to 2015 and this Eurovision Song Contest vlog is just about hanging in there on the road to Vienna. Learn of the warm welcome the French entry received on the internet (ahem), how Estonia may just have the winner on its hands and how the Eurupeun Brordkasting Uniun is doing its bit for the fans.
