The presentation will provide an overview of the USGS National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center (NCCWSC) program and the current status of the regional North Central Climate Science Center (NC CSC) that is under that national program. The talk will present the NC CSC’s framework for climate change vulnerability assessment and how that framework is being used to direct its five year research plan. The framework can also be used to highlight the relationship between the DOI Climate Science Centers (CSCs) and the Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs). Some of the initial work at the center is considering how climate variability and future climate projections can be integrated with ecological response models to help inform today’s land management decisions.

See this introductory report on materials for the future made from stuff that was here all along. Ecovative's breakthrough biomaterial science research is changing how the world views manufacturing and recycling. Firms like Dell, Steelcase, and Crate and Barrel already use some of these products. Mushroom technology is being employed to create packaging and product cushioning, used in replacing aldehydes as a natural glue, and supplants polystyrene in many applications. The Ecovative products are water resistant, fire retardant, possess similar thermal properties to EPS, cost less to manufacture and are completely biodegrable - even compostable! The mad science behind the technology actually employs the mushroom kingdom to do most of the work. Eben, Gavin, Sue and their team have won International science and business prizes since 2007 to bootstrap their intent to provide bio-composite material production in a way that would have a positive impact on the planet and the bottom line in business. Learn how consumers can tap into this new and clean technology to benefit from these emerging products. Help get the full report on-line by 1 April 2012 so this information can be shared with the world. Google INDIE GOGO to see how you can help heal the planet and eliminate polystyrene from the landfills in less than 10 years.
