I took the first minutes of Into the Wild of Sean Penn (2007), a film that reached deeply my hidden self, as the input for the Video Destroyer, an openFrameworks application that i wrote. It analyzes pixel by pixel every frame of the movie, re_drawing on the screen just some of the pixels of the upcoming frame and leaving mainly the pixels where no particular difference war. The effect created is a kind of persistence of vision in a digital version, with the computer that keeps traces of what happened in the previous scenes. Originally i wanted to simulate a sort of compression effect, but the result surprised me because of the noise and the strange effects that sometimes come out. This is then the result of this experiment, it is nonetheless just a first tryout for a further development. Enjoy it! http://davidebevilacqua.com

http://kylemcdonald.net/ http://www.openframeworks.cc/ http://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/events/openframeworks-developers-presentation-series Kyle McDonald works with sounds and codes, exploring translation, contextualization, and similarity. With a background in philosophy and computer science, he strives to integrate intricate processes and structures with accessible, playful realizations that often have a do-it-yourself, open-source aesthetic. Openframeworks is a c++ library designed to assist the creative process by providing a simple and intuitive framework for experimentation. Kyle's lecture was part of the OpenFrameworks Lecture Series, given at Carnegie Mellon University in January of 2011 and sponsored by the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry. In association with the first international OpenFrameworks World-Wide Developers Meeting, some of the world’s leading computational artist/developers discussed their pioneering work at the intersection of arts and computer science. During the week, the OpenFrameworks core development team was encamped at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry to advance the next version of OpenFrameworks, a toolkit for new media education and creative coding. Each evening at 5pm, they featured three or four short presentations by members of this team.

Headphones recommended. This video includes performances from the Sound Tests conducted at Parsons The New School of Design on March 26 and 27. As part of the Thesis process, my goal was to provide an opportunity where musicians, artists, designers, programmers, engineers, friends, and family would be able to use the instrument I have been working on this semester. The performances shown here are excerpts from 2 full days of performances and collaborations that included over 30 participants. The application and sound synthesis portion of this project was built using openFrameworks. For more information: http://www.ryanraffa.com/parsons/thesis/category/final-project/1-sound-tests/
