A submission for Zooppa's contest : "IBM : People For Smarter Cities". The Leaf Ninjas are a team of local food pioneers in Calgary, AB, Canada. In the last 3 years, these young men have made waves in their community through their efforts in urban farming and edible landscape design. Their impact in the community has been immensely positive, inspiring people of all walks of life to engage in the local food system through starting their own edible gardens as well as supporting local farmers. They are helping to research and promote sustainable growing methods such as Food Forestry in an effort to create a truly sustainable food system for humanity. www.zooppa.com

“I’ve read countless articles and books about soils, listened to a host of speakers holding forth about soils, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more inspiring or enjoyable soil life presentation than from Doug Weatherbee. Who could ever imagine that soils could be presented in a hybrid sit-com, sci-fi, who-dun-it theatrical production? Thank you, Doug, for making us all appreciate afresh the intricate, dynamic, awesome world of soil. If Doug is on the speaking roster, it’s worth going to the conference just to hear his dynamic presentation.” Joel Salatin, Polyface Farm 2013 Learn how beneficial soil microbes can provide soluble nutrients and plant disease suppression to your farm or garden. As soon as Geoff Lawton realized he was having "dreams of self-sufficiency and living in a harmonious way with natural systems," he started getting involved with permaculture. This was way before permaculture was the buzz word that it is today. Through his work, the movement has spread to like-minded individuals the world over. In this video, we take a walk with him through the lands that started the sustainable growth movement while he explains pivotal moments in environmental history. Read more about Geoff and permaculture at: http://www.geofflawton.com http://www.permaculturenews.org/ This video was made possible by Leatherman - http://www.leatherman.com Camera: Cyrus Sutton Edit: Chris Olivas Music: "Skip" by Adam Weatheford ABOUT LOCAL LEGENDZ: Local Legendz is an exploration between Korduroy and Leatherman Sport into communities around the world through the guidance of deeply connected individuals who are quietly changing the world from their backyards through hard-work, innovation, craftsmanship and creativity. Through their commitment to this community, this person has gained breadth of wisdom and knowledge which they use in guiding us to a better understanding of place and self, much like the legend on a map. Is there someone of 'legend' status in your hood? We'd love to know! Submit their photo and a description to http://local-legendz.tumblr.com/submit or #local_legendz on Instagram and Twitter. For the next 8 weeks, we will be giving away a limited-edition Leatherman tool to the best submission of the week!

Scott and Alex Mueller, along with their dog Sadie, are building a sustainable dream farm and sharing their journey with you. Their mission at the Moosicorn Ranch is to build a more sustainable life for themselves and in doing so share it with others. To accomplish this they will: 1) Build a personal home that sustains the earth. 2) Support a retreat for others to learn how they did it and what doing it does for the soul. 3) Enjoy! You can learn more about what they are doing by visiting http://www.moosicorn.com
