Digital Eco-Float for Rose Parade One Colorado provides the venue for the first unofficial “Digital Float” for the Rose Parade. Conceived as the greenest float by artists Alex Kritselis and Joey Forsyte, this “float” is the culmination of a three week public art installation that focuses on environmental issues. One Colorado has hosts the public art installation “Don’t Blow It/A Rising Tide,” featuring 13 rear screen projections within 7 storefronts in the historic retail and entertainment district. The installations began on Dec. 17th, "flooding” Old Town Pasadena with a series of images of rising seawater, consumer goods floating through jellyfish infested waters and humans swimming beneath the water’s surface. The series offers a playful, yet provocative, look at our relationship to the environment. The final installation, inspired by the quote, “Don’t blow it. A good planet is hard to find.” features videos of roses literally pulsing with life and roses flying off into space to search for another good planet. With a nod to both Pasadena’s home as the host of the Rose Parade and it’s famous JPL space mission’s, the couple hopes to bring awareness to the issues surrounding global warming and resource depletion. The videos screen nightly from 5:30 pm to midnight through Jan. 3rd, 20010 and will run all night on New Year’s Eve.

On a beach in southwest Japan, I wanted to give voice to the ocean garbage piling up knee-deep at the water's edge. The material washed up on this isolated beach consists mainly of plastics and styrofoam — refuse from nearby countries, Korea, Japan and China. Observing the ocean currents, it's likely that it spins off from the edge of the Great Northern Pacific Garbage Patch. Performers: Juliet Palmer & James Rolfe Camera: Miriam Palmer

Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang have been collecting plastic debris off one beach in Northern California for over ten years. Each piece of plastic Richard and Judith pick up comes back to their house, where it gets cleaned, categorized and stored before being used for their art.
