Kayaking here provided a daily opportunity for absolute disorientation in an idyllic and wild setting, both challenging and beautiful. We visited both the inhabited and uninhabited, exploring the health of the reefs and the lives of the people who live and depend on these most-remote atolls.

My parents decided last minute to go to Monterey to breathe some fresh air since we were very busy and stressed out from too much work around town. So, this day, on Monday of July 25, 2011 at around 3 p.m., we left San Jose, CA and were on the way to the beach. It was a warm summer day. However, just as we approached the exit to Monterey, we decided that we'll check out Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. It was my parents' first time to visit this beach. It was my 2nd so I showed them the way. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating. The skies were covered in the usual summer coastal fog/overcast conditions. We arrived to Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA at around 5:15 p.m. When we arrived on the beach of Carmel, we saw many dogs playing actually! We also enjoyed breathing the fresh sea breeze, away from the city, and also took a nice walk by the waves. It was a good thing I got my tripod so I can video/take photos with all 3 of us in it, just like Survivorman haha! After a one hour walk on the beach, we just went back up in the inner parts of the beach to sit down and enjoy the sand and views. The sand was nice and fine and somewhat white. It would be bright white if it was sunny. We also had some fun feeding the seagulls and birds with our leftover food. Then it was already around 7 p.m. and we decided to head to Pacific Grove, CA to see the sunset, if there was because we thought we'd give it a shot since there appeared to be some clearing in the horizon to the west before leaving Carmel beach. So we headed to P.G., CA. I took some footage of the small town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA while on Ocean Ave. We also went through the tunnel and traveled along Ocean View Blvd while on our way to our ultimate sunset spot along Sunset Drive in Pacific Grove, CA. Wow, it cleared dramatically, except for a few patchy fog clouds but it was clear enough for the sunset all together! Then at 13:48 in the video, it shows my favorite part of the trip; an ocean sunset at the tide pools in P.G.! Sit back and enjoy the sea breeze, sunset and sounds of the ocean with me... The sunset ended at around 8:20 p.m. Then after the sunset, we decided to head to Monterey Cannery Row to eat dinner. We ate at Louie Linguini's restaurant. I had clam chowder bread bowl while my dad had minestrone soup and my mom had the same that I got. That was our short, summer outing, half-day trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove and Monterey, CA!
