This is the first official promo for Diary; an Urdu stage play written and directed by Yasra Rizvi. The play is being produced by Nabiha Durrani (Gravity Productions) and will be presented at the PNCA Auditorium, Islamabad from 2nd to 6th February, 2011. The play focuses on the life of a woman who must lose all touch with reality and the outside world before she can finally forgive herself and hope to be forgiven by others for unknowingly choosing love over life. It will resonate deeply with anyone who has faced the dilemma of having to pick between the material and the meaningful; what one ought to do and what one wants. Diary stars Fahim Azim, Mohsin Ejaz, Suleman Sunny, Gul Mazhar, Yasra Rizvi and features the music of Amir Khusro. Promo shot by Shahzaib Atif, editing and post by Ibrahim Khan.

"Sonya Sophia" was a video installation created during my undergraduate at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. The installation performance was a recreation of my participation in an Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT) Circle at Burning Man 2009. EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem - whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. -- and voice positive affirmations.

I have been wanting to make a visual representation of the songs in a DJ mix for a long time now. This is my first attempt. I started with an excerpt from Mustard Pimps: Catastrophe Mix Vol 2. I wanted to come up with sequences that would be separate but similar enough to easily transition into each other, much like how a DJ mixes music. In the second sequence (Tiga- You gonna want me (Hey Today Remix)), each layer of the bridge is a real time representation of every sound in the song. Every car represents a note in the song, and it reads almost like the software interface of electronic music production programs such as Reason or Abelton Live. The same is true for each of the trains in the next sequence (LA Riots- I want to), each of the trains are a sound in the song, the box cars each represent a note. I see this video as an example of more progressive visual representation than what currently backdrops electronic music at shows or raves. The lack of sophisticated visuals only lowers the experiential spectacle that contemporary electronic music pushes with its live shows and advertising. This realization drove me to make this video, in an effort to transform the spaces that electronic music fills.

This is a music video that I shot for my foundations time arts class at Pacific Northwest College of Art. Done in a day, shot in my apartment, at school in the pearl district of Portland, OR and the surrounding neighborhoods with my Samsung Memoir cell phone, edited in Final Cut Pro. Big thanks to my unsuspecting friends Justin and Clinton for their faces.
