1. Steve Wheen. 'Little Holes of Happiness'

    13:56

from The Lost Lectures / Added

Hackney-based Steve is a ‘guerrilla gardener’ who uses potholes as his canvas to create miniature gardens. Part art project, part labour of love, part experiment, part mission to highlight how shit our roads are – the pictures and gardens he creates are designed to put a smile on peoples’ faces while alerting them to potholes! In this supremely disarming talk, he describes how his little 'holes of happiness' offer Londoners an excuse to stop, just for a moment. In a world where everyone's always going somewhere, Steve's gardens are a delightful little break.

During a recent trip to Montrose Falls on the Crocodile River Luke Longridge insisted we venture further downstream to have a look at a waterfall he has had his sights on for some time. Luke led the way with De Wet Michau running the same line, but with slightly different results..."just keep swimming swimming swimming!"

I've had a handful of requests from people to publish some video of this pothole. The pit of despair in Poe gets a lot of play as one of the scariest and difficult potholes to defeat, but as far as the most terrifying to look at, it has to be the Wart which is even farther downcanyon. This clip was shot in 2009, on an original GoPro (not HD). So excuse the poor quality. You can see me going onto a guided rappel, and transitioning to a tyrolean traverse to cross the gaper. What you don't see is how we solved the thing. It's not particularly difficult once you figure it all out, but I won't explain the solution here, for those who don't want the paint by numbers on this particular obstacle. I think the kids call that a "keeper." Music - Broke For Free - As Colorful As Ever - https://vimeo.com/musicstore/track/63807

--- “The Pothole” is the 5th solo exhibition of Ekin Saclioglu at x-ist. Saclioglu, who, in her previous exhibitions, questioned the reliability of memory and recollections and the relationship between dream and reality, has sometimes been inspired by a memory of her own or a story that belongs to a friend, has called attention to what is social through personal situations, builds her last exhibition on the idea of a pothole that is located on her way back home.
