    • Alex Reading Shel Silverstein at Age 4

We're continually amazed by how well Alex reads. He started with really short "helper" books at age 3, but he moved beyond them quickly. These days he reads "Fox in Socks" by Dr. Seuss like a pro. He and his siblings got Shel Silverstein books for Christmas, which he was itching to read. I'd say he did rather well with "The Crocodile's Toothache". :)

They say that its best to begin young to make changes for a large impact and the Greenwoods Kindergarten did just that! The recently concluded Exploravision 2012 with the Theme Peace through Biodivesity , was a not just a treat to the senses in every way , but also one that stimulated the intellect deeply. Under the ageis of the Rotary Club of Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, the “explo” was inaugurated on 6th December 2012 by Past District Governor Rtn Val Leivers and Rtn Terry Leivers from the UK. The event was an attempt to enhance public awareness on the importance of conserving Biodiversity, the imminent threats and how the world is linked together through this delicate balance of nature. There underlying themes that were explored in detail – the green world , the hot world and the cold white world. They looked at the linkages of the eco system there to the rest of the living species. Little do we realize that nature’s master plan envisages the interdependence of all forms of life for our well being. A change in the balance in the Ice caps can have a huge impact on life in the plains and vice versa. This concept was vividly demonstrated through outstanding exhibits that mimicked the real land scape in every way. Visitors were actually transported into the real land as it were. Enter a room and one was bang in the middle of the desert or the forests! Skilful and extremely creative use of natural materials – cloth and paper – made viewing a visual treat. Every part of living life, be it plants or animals or the water world was painstakingly created with the use of just these two materials. The enormous time taken to plan and visualize the presentation and the even greater effort to actually execute it was evidently visible. The staff and the leadership deserve accolades for the commendable display. The photographs alongside are the best way to describe the scenes. Is that a dhoti, is that a paper plate, is that a paper cup, is that a piece of string, are those just bits of stray paper – these and many more creative uses never ceased to amaze! Learning by Doing is the best way to learn – and one could see how much learning would have happened through the display. Several schools visited the show thereby proving that spreading the message of Preservation is the road to Peace.
