In 2010, the CEVS hosted a competition for start-up companies specialising in clean-energy technologies. The companies were given seven minutes each to audition their technologies in front of a panel of judges made up of cleantech experts and top tier venture capitalists and angel investors. The goal was to have their technologies included in Austin's $29M smart-grid/smart-home Pecan Street demonstration project, backed by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation and the City of Austin.
