You should watch it as a loop. It's the whole point. - "For two thousand years you've been taking tickets for revolutions. You'd even be tempted to bring your little basket, not to loose a crumb, wouldn't you?" Léo Ferré, There's nothing left. (roughly translated) © LouisCrevier 2012

After seeing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and the scene where Katniss sings "The Hanging Tree" and we see the rebellion begin, I was inspired to create my own version of The Hanging Tree for our world. Here is just a compilation of videos and pictures from around the Internet showing those from the past and present who have fought their oppressors in order to gain a better life and more rights. I believe that our world isn't so far off as the one in The Hunger Games, and looking at these videos and pictures reinforces that. Again, I do not own any of the pictures or videos used; I simply downloaded and organized them using iMovie. I am not earning any money from this video either. The song is called "The Hanging Tree" by James Newton Howard with Jennifer Lawrence singing the main vocals. I hope you enjoy.

In the summer of 2011, Nadir Bouhmouch, a Moroccan student studying abroad in California returns to his home country and finds it in a state of turmoil. The uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt had spread to Morocco. The February 20th movement had begun, organized by students and promoted through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and a website called Mamfakinch. People were flooding the streets and demanding change. But the Makhzen (the ruling elite) refuses to abandon it’s grasp. This film investigates what gave birth to the revolt and the obstacles it encounters on it’s struggle for freedom, democracy, human rights and an end to corruption and poverty. This week I happened to find myself working down at the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for some extra curricular filming so during a short break I managed to shoot the fifth of my weekly videos for my Video Challenge. I didn't have a great deal of time and I certainly didn't want the hassle of shooting on anything as large as my 7D so I borrowed a GoPro Hero from my friend Kris Blair. It's a really great little camera although they weren't really designed for indoor shooting which explains the noisy image. Still I'm really pleased with what I shot and it's particularly nice to see the new velodrome being enjoyed by so many people. The music track is entitled Wow and is licensed from Audio Network.

Arab Winter is a Multimedia, multi-disciplinary event with musicians, painters, calligraphists, graffiti artists and short films. It is the first show in a series by this collective of Artists. www.underpressure.ca www.warchestra.com www.sundusah.tumblr.com Sundus Abdul Hadi was born to Iraqi parents in the UAE in 1984 and raised in Montreal, Canada. As a painter and multi-media artist, Abdul Hadi works around the concepts of media representation, and subverting existing images. Her frequent stays in the Middle East inform much of her work, in juxtaposition to her critical consumption of Western media. Her work has been featured and exhibited in the UAE, Palestine, Iraq, Australia, Canada and the US, with solo shows of her multimedia series “Warchestra” held in Toronto, and Ottawa. About Warchestra and The Flight Series Warchestra was initiated as a painting series combatting the stereotypical images of Arabs in the Western media. By creating an image that does not exist in the media, the Warchestra experience aims to redefine, re-imagine and reinvent the events of the East and have them exist in a possible, yet imaginary alternative to how we, as spectators, consume media. The project is a multi-media experience in collaboration with local and International vocalists and musicians interpolating the art into sound. Flight is about healing. Human flight, in particular, exists only in the realm of the impossible, and is brought to life through youthful imagination. The work is positioned in the context of the current “UP-risings” happening in the Arab World, and the obstacles that the youth must overcome.
