        • Dissipative Structures Dance Concert

The title, Dissipative Structures, comes from a scientific theory by Ilya Prigogine which I have interpreted it as “we are constantly evolving into higher, more organized, more complex forms. Several of the dance sections are based on evolving patterns. An appropriate quote from a poem by physicist Richard Feynman is “atoms of consciousness, matter with curiosity”. (if you google Feynman and go to his wikkiquotes, there is some really applicable stuff!) The dance show is family friendly and should run under an hour. It features choreography by guest artist Crystal Edwards who has danced with Diavolo and is currently a company member of Black Label Movement in Minneapolis. Other choreography is by Gretchen Osdoba (CSB student), Leigh Dillard (faculty) and CSB/SJU students. Most all of the music has been composed by Will Van de Crommert (SJU student). The show will also feature several campus dance clubs, including Illmatic Force and Swing Catz. Performances May 2, 3, 4, 2013 at 7:30pm.

I had the privilege and the honor to shadow and film the 2011 Saint John's University Cross Country Team. All footage was taken with my Nikon P100 point & shoot digital camera and with the assistance of my sister's Trek mountain bike. I want to personally thank all the Johnnie distance runners that made this season and this film possible. I also want to thank the man at the helm of this program, Head Coach Tim Miles, for his devotion to Saint John's Cross Country. Without him, none of what you see in this video would be possible. I was fortunate to wear the baby blue and red and toe the line alongside my best friends and teammates for four years. Now it's time for the next generation to fill the void left by the graduating seniors. To that next generation, I say simply "Go do it."

Theology Day is a chance for people in our communities who are seeking a deeper understanding of their faith and its place in their everyday lives to learn from and interact with the theologians of Saint John's School of Theology·Seminary. Saint Augustine said that the waters of baptism “touch the body and cleanse the heart.” Come join us as we reflect on how our embodied experience of baptism has initiated us into the shared love of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our daily experiences of joy and of tragedy call us back to the water and more deeply into the life of the Trinity. Gain insight into how our experience of life together -- from first to last breath -- is a revelation of God’s presence among us. If you wish, you may bring a baptismal photo or memento (yours or someone else’s) to assist our reflection. Kimberly Hope Belcher is an assistant professor at Saint John’s School of Theology·Seminary and the Department of Theology of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
