The church being revealed is of the utmost importance in the world. As a corporate body of believers (the church), we are mandated by God to bring hope to all people. God's intention is that those representing His church would be set apart to Him, but not exclusively for Him. His primary goal is that His followers would be set apart to bring His abundant life into the world. Saints who are transformed into His likeness ultimately bring transformation to the culture around them.

Psalm 89:1 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. 2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. 3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, 4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. 5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

Over 4 weeks we’re going to look at God’s blueprint for the church to be led and how to partner with the gospel so that that LHCC impacts not only our neighbourhoods but also nations. We’re going to explore the role of an apostolic team, also the offices of elders and deacons in the local church, but as it’s so easy to focus on those offices I felt it was key to start off by reminding us that no matter what office someone may function in that ultimately we’re all servants in God’s house. Jesus gave us the ultimate example of servant leadership. The New Testament uses different words for those who believe in Jesus. Believers – belonging to the way – Christians (nickname in Antioch) but the most common term is probably ‘saint’. Saints are used 67 times in the New Testament and the Greek word Hagios means “consecrated to God, holy, sacred”. The word “saint” conjures up all sorts of images for people. Some will think of the saints as the church fathers or others we think about dead Christians who did significant things on earth and now have a special role in heaven. But did you know that although the New Testament has a lot to say about saints it’s nothing to do with people who are in heaven but rather it describes Christ’s followers here on earth today but rather those of us who are alive today and are actually seated with Christ in the heavenly realms. Many think that a saint has special powers from heaven to intervene in broken lives today, but they’re only half right. The saints can change the world, but they do not do it having died. Hundreds of saints are here today and it’s God’s pleasure to give every single one of us the ability to change our world today. We are the saints. We’re the holy ones, consecrated and set apart for God, and we’re seated with Christ in heavenly places to change our broken earth.
