After many attempts I have finally produced a file using Avisynth, in conjunction with Virtualdub. This is very much a first attempt and some fine tuning is definitely required. Your footage must be progressive and have no duplicate frames, I manually deleted these duplicate frames in Serif Movieplus X5, but I'm sure there is some software that would do this (a lot quicker)

      • New Big sign at Dunfermline Alhambra

Shot today using the 720p video function of my new Pentax K-r DSLR. Nothing like as intuiative as my JVC HD-40 or Sony DCR-HC1000e but quite pleasing results. Then again the Pentax was bought as a stills camera and it's pretty good in this respect. This is a little follow up to my earlier Alhambra film, I was heading over to Edinburgh and stopped to shoot this on the way out of town. For those who don't know the story; Bill Fletcher has been trying for a few years to reinstate the Theatre's vertical sign and having to jump through all sort of hoops to get to this stage. I will post a video of the illuminated complete sign, which I think will look spectacular. Editing (such as there is) was done in serif Movieplus X3 Footnote:- I notice that pans are quite jerky expecially at full screen. I have played the same file on an android tablet and it plays very smoothly. I'm probably still not getting the file to suit vimeo!!

A piece of motion graphics, designed to promote the positive benefits of Maggie’s care centres to cancer patients. The piece combines typography with architectural forms, found in Maggie’s centres, to communicate a sincerely positive message. The typography has been set in slightly edited variations of Mr. Eaves and Mrs. Eaves typefaces. The juxtaposition of these two gendered typefaces communicates a subtle human feel throughout the motion design.

Shot this 2 weeks ago but couldn't upload until today because I'm a cheapskate and had exceeded my upload limit. This event is annual and incorporated into the Fife Sport for All festival. I shot this as part of a two man team though this edit is only my footage. The stuff out on the actual river was shot courtesy of a lift from an inflatable motorised lifeboat (I think from Port Edgar) so thanks for that. My camera has a digital image stabiliser which is best switched off so this is shot with no stabilising whatsoever. Ideally in these cirmcustances I would keep the lens wide to help but here I shot quite a lot on telephoto because our boat's wake meant we had to keep a decent distance from the swimmers. I found I was best kneeling on the floor of the boat and letting both my knees and arms eliminate some of the shake caused by the wave buffetting and vibration from the boat motor. The interview at the front was shot on the hoof and unfortunately the interviewee isn't particularly sharp. One of the instances where it looked ok in the view finder! The event itself was swum between the piers from South to North Queensferry following the route taken by the car ferries up to the 1960s. The first swimmers make shore inside 30 minutes which compared favourably with the time taken by the ferries to make the crossing (typically 15 minutes). This part of the river has quite strong tides and the event was timed to happen just as the tides were turning. Even with this the field was spread quite wide and certainly a few of the later swimmers appeared to have be carried up river a bit. Technical info: Shot on a JVC GZ-HD40, used a Rode Videomic (without deid cat), edited and output on Serif Movieplus X3

Shot yesterday at an event included in the Fife Sport for All Festival. Wind noise was a big issue - I think I need to invest in a 'deid cat'. I had the great idea of filming the traditional musicians with insert shots covering ropey zooms; I didn't factor in the sound of a children's entertainer on top of the wind noise (should have worn headphones) - oh well! Shot on the JVC GZ-HD40 which I am starting to get the hang of. Edited on Serif Movieplus X3 as 1080i and compressed and output as a 1280x720 file
