The Jerk with Steve Martin and this woman, also features my computer mouse. it does not feature midi controllers or any other shitty software instruments. everything was performed line in, live. except for vocals obviously and the shaker and whitewood clav tracks. only did one take on everything, hence the drag out of the drum track and synthesizer. original audio from the jerk 1979 included male and female vocals, wave crash dubs, ukulele and trumpet

My preparation for my art exam 'Boundaries', a little directors commentary which i hope you will understand. I've decided to film both, what the director wants to be shot (in a music video) and the real time movements that happen off camera to express how some music artists do not have a say in how they are being presented. They are being portrayed, generally, as a stereotype therefore causing a boundary for creativity. A music artist such as Bjork is more independent and does have a say in what is being represented however she can only appeal to a niche audience. I have decided to play untypical instruments to relate to a niche audience like Bjork. I have also decided to choose shots that are stereotypical of a video and that make the set up look confined in this garden. http://www.vimeo.com/forums/topic:1340

This was an idea i had to make an affordable Image shaker much like the ones made by Clairmont and used in such films like Saving Private Ryan or in numerous music videos. Shot on the DVX100a and Redrock M2 with a Nikon 50mm. and Home made image shaker.

The idea i am mostly trying to express in my video is the idea that it does not matter, in terms of audience, what music you make- it could be very expressive- it would still relate to a niche audience: but it is how the director potrays the music artists in the music video, which is generally in order to reflect stereotypes in the music industry for profit in the future. This is manufactured work not creativity. I have used stop motion in order to present music video techniques and camera angles. (Seen in White Stripes- Hardest button to button.) Using bubbles as a literal boundary i present the artist breaking free from this portrayal gradually. I show the artist and the directors relationship and the performance mode of the musician and the real time movements off camera, as she switches off from the stereotype. Hard to explain, any thoughts appreciated
