Swapnil's Performing Arts & Contemporary Ensemble (SPACE) presents ... An alluring contemporary dance theatre performance conceptualized by SPACE. It is a visual seduction that tells the story of the beautiful Shakuntala, daughter of Sage Vishwamitra and Enchantress from heaven Menaka. Inspired by the tale from the greatest Indian epic of all times –the Mahabharata; this theatrical extravaganza is a fictional retelling with a contemporary outlook. Marrying traditional methods of classical Indian story telling with modern ways of interpretative and improvisational dance choreography, Shakuntala will represent a woman of today. But what has really changed since the epic was written? Does her struggle; her raw emotion and the fact that she expresses herself make her more real? Or does her make a woman that the society wouldn’t identify with? You decide. Shakuntala - after she has been rejected by the king, who earlier seduced her and made her pregnant. Now he has denied that he ever knew her, a questionable 'memory loss'. Kapila Venu, is playing this role from the Kuttiyatam play by Kalidasa. Kuttiyatam is the oldest Sanskrit theatre form, dating back earlier than 2,000 years. This video recorded by Margaret Fabrizio in 2007 at Natana Kairali in Irinjalakuda, Kerala, India. Suggest watching full screen

Toured the UK between 27 September - 10 November 2007 Watching the exhilarating fight sequences that occur when father and son meet, I was left breathless' - Watford Observer Little India told a tale of love, loss, mischief and mayhem. Two people meet and quickly fall in love, but one leaves and forgets, while the other is left holding their child. Passionate battles follow in this heart-stopping story of a broken family searching to reconcile their different worlds. Influenced by South Indian traditions of Kalaripayattu (martial art), Konokol (rhythmic patterns) and mudras (hand gestures), Trestle re-imagined the classical story of Shakuntala for a contemporary time; combining ancient arts with modern words, and inspirational music from India. http://www.trestle.org.uk/pl96.html
