Keynote Speaker: Allan Thygesen Allan is a co-founder of Metric Ventures, an early stage venture fund. Earlier, he was a Managing Director in the US venture and growth funds of the Carlyle Group. Presenter: Michael Williams, Founder of iTMP will showcase mobile apps for fitness and health using wireless sensors. Mike Head and Hunter Hillegas, co-founders of SBclick, demonstrate localized marketing that targets users based on location. Chris Herbert, co-founder of Phone Halo, will discuss eliminating losses using smartphones and the Phone Halo Protect devices. Moderator: Jacques Habra Program Description: How often we connect and how we connect has been paramount to our history as a civilization - and to our modern economy. It’s still staggering that we can pick up an object, dial 7 digits, and speak to someone on the other side of the world – just a few seconds later. Whether it’s landlines or mobile devices, the ability to hear another human’s live voice so easily and on such a personal level is nothing short of an engineering marvel. Today’s mobile devices are ubiquitous in our society, and nearly everywhere in the world. Engineers are making those devices smaller, more integrated, and now more and more connected to the physical world. Our keynote speaker is a successful venture capitalist who is focused on enabling the growth of the mobile device/mobile applications industry. He will discuss the key factors for success in the mobile apps business. We will then hear from three entrepreneurs that are pioneering advanced uses of mobile technologies – right here in our community. They are all indeed scientists of connectivity... finding better, and more useful ways to share and live. Enabling our memories and anticipating loss, improving health tracking, and putting us at the center of our geographical physical location at every passing moment. Mobile Barcodes (more specifically; QR Codes) have started to pop up everywhere. We see them appearing in magazines & catalogs, on outdoor signage, on packaged goods, on billboards, and even as artwork. Given the increasing adoption of Smartphones and rapid advancements in their capabilities, Mobile Barcodes are becoming a powerful advertising vehicle with near infinite opportunities. Unfortunately, far too many Marketers utilizing Mobile Barcodes are sacrificing its true potential – merely using them to direct consumers to an existing website. Although the technology does in fact present an efficient way to access websites, there is significantly more value attainable with effective implementation. This webinar will offer a comprehensive understanding of available opportunities by exploring a wide range of relevant services, practices, and techniques. Attendees will learn that marketing with Mobile Barcodes is about more than simply delivering a message, it’s about creating an end-to-end Mobile experience for consumers. You can expect to walk away with an elevated appreciation for barcode integration, websites & content mobilization, and the ability to achieve maximum revenue with mobile payment solutions and mCommerce. Speakers: Imran Aftab, TenPearls Matthew Valleskey, Director of Marketing, Mobile Services, Neustar Jim Brown, SVP, AdMeris Sponsor: Neustar Live Webinar Date: November 3, 2011

This webinar is by Jason Clark from November 13, 2013. Responsive web design, the ability to craft a web site that adapts into the resolution of the device it is being displayed on, is changing the game for web developers. In this webinar, we’ll look at how responsive design principles can be applied to your web development and enable you to build a single web site that adapts to work on the desktop, tablet, and smartphone environments. Thomas Wenisch Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering University of Michigan Power Management from Smartphones to Data Centers Abstract Power has become a first-class design constraint in computing platforms from the smartphone in your pocket to warehouse-scale computers in the cloud. Historically, semiconductor innovation has repeatedly provided more transistors (Moore’s Law) for roughly constant power per chip by scaling down supply voltage each generation. Unfortunately voltage scaling has ended due to stability limits and chip power densities are increasing each generation on a trajectory that outstrips improvements in the ability to dissipate heat. To continue to extract value from Moore’s Law, we need to find system-level approaches to improve efficiency and deliver more performance within tight energy, power, and thermal constraints. In the first part of this talk, I will discuss Computational Sprinting, a technique to improve the responsiveness of smartphone platforms by transiently exceeding sustainable thermal limits—firing up numerous `dark silicon’ cores to complete a sub-second burst of computation while buffering the resulting heat in a phase change material embedded in the chip’s heat sink. Then, I will shift focus to warehouse-scale computing to discuss power management in online data intensive services. These applications, such as web search, social networking, and ad serving, must process terabytes of data in interactive time scales, making them a challenging target for power management.
