An estimated 20 to 40 billion dollars is stolen each year from developing countries. Corruption on this scale undermines the rule of law, distorts markets, and threatens human rights and security. States invest years and millions to identify and recover the proceeds of corruption, yet important work remains to be done to repair the damage — repatriation and monitoring mechanisms matter. Assets for Impact is a campaign to promote the use of recovered assets for development initiatives. We advocate for governments, civil society, and other partners to work together to return assets in ways that address national priorities, are fully transparent and accountable, and that rebuild trust, strengthen public services, and benefit those most affected by corruption.
