This summer, friends and associates of Ray C. Anderson gathered on what would have been his 80th birthday to dedicate the naming of a 16-mile stretch of Interstate 85 in West Georgia in his honor. A West Point, GA native and graduate of Georgia Tech, Ray founded Troup County–based Interface, Inc., the world’s largest carpet tile manufacturer, and led his company to become a highly lauded and emulated model of sustainable industry. A vision of future urban transportation system which is meant as an alternative for owning a car and mass transit. The idea is to combine taxi service, real-time ride sharing and self-driving vehicles. Friendly looking vehicles named BOT are in constant connection with the network that accepts ride-requests. They can pick up users at any location, and unlike public transport, drive them directly to the destination. If someone needs to go in similar direction, the system allows him or her to join a ride, making it an efficient way to commute. As one cab can replace 4 or even more private cars, it would greatly contribute to reduction of traffic congestion.
