I recently started exploring game development in my spare time, picking up where I left off a number of years ago when I almost went into the games industry before taking a different course. This renewed interest was partly the result of the resurgence of the indie game scene in recent years and my desire to use my coding skills to build the types of games I wanted to play. This talk covers part of my research into a selection of affordable off-the-shelf game engines currently available to indie developers, interspersed with images of guinea pigs. The range of options available to someone who wants to get into game development can often be overwhelming and confusing, so by gathering together some of the more popular options, along with some slightly leftfield alternatives, I hope to pass some of my curiosity and enthusiasm on to other would-be game creators.

Grad Student Seminar given at UBC CS about Git & other version control systems. I went off-script for the seminar so this screencast is a bit disorganized, and only shows a fairly narrow range of git's features. You might learn more looking at the resources here: http://ntraft.com/learn-git/ DISCLAIMER: The video says that UBC students can use the Atlassian Stash for anything, and that is unfortunately not true. The license is for undergraduate coursework only.

Oldie but goodie! 2011 gaming news will make you say - "oh yeah! i remember that!" Then it really gets deep when Kinte gets the truth out of Rysan about his machinima work at the time - wedding videos & adult machinima! Funny conversation there - something about catering to his dark side. Lap tried to introduce a geekier slant but they wouldn't let him, though he did get to say MP4, high definition and H264!

                      What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
