Innervation takes a swim in a speculative space that exists between smartphone technologies an environment which is fascinating as it allows for a visual interrogation of the physical processes that govern so much of our daily perceptions. Whilst providing an opportunity for analytical thought directed at how this particular technology is altering how we perceive or touch something. Created over the course of two years allowing for a collection of my most current and reoccurring interests in the video/film/documentary. These are primarily: ownership, appropriation, history, and philosophy.

"Meditative Mantis" Uli Einweg recorded his timelapse process of generating the movement in erich's Photoshop finished comic drawings. Uli used the many layers to create the movement you see in the final version of the video and timed these movements to Thich Nhat Hanh's audio from the interview made at the EIAB in Germany. 'This is the third children's talk offered by Thay in the third week of the Summer Opening Retreat, given in the Upper Hamlet of Plum Village on Wednesday, July 27th, 2011. Before the talk, the Italian Sangha and Joe Reilly & Friends offer versions of Thay's poem on the Buddha breathing. In the talk, Thay offers the children another poem that they may recite in the morning: Waking up this morning, I smile / Twenty-four brand new hours are before me / I vow to go through them in mindfulness / And look on all beings with eyes of compassion. He talks about his years as a young novice learning poems like these, and how happy he was to grow up in an environment of music and poetry.'

"Bloom" is inspired by Vietnamese Buddhist Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh who writes, "As thin as this sheet of paper is, it contains everything in the universe in it." I began exploring the interconnectedness of my environment to a sheet of paper by filming through a sheet of semi-transparent paper and shooting with a slow shutter speed. No images in this film were digitally altered in editing. They appear exactly as I shot them. I like to say that I didn't make "Bloom". I discovered it by shifting my own, heavily conditioned, and sometimes dull perspective and viewing my everyday surroundings with openness and the attitude of someone who had, for instance, never seen grass before. In Bloom, I’m exploring changing perspectives and the infinite source of possibilities hidden within each moment.
