Our production designer Eléonore Cremonese designed the sets of Head Over Heels so that they would be easy to deconstruct and reconstruct. Anytime we needed to flip the set upside down, this made it really easy to do it piece-by-piece. Here, cinematographer Chloë Thomson and I finish breaking down the set from Madge's perspective and build it back up from Walter's perspective.

The finished version of this shot is featured prominently in the trailer for Head Over Heels. I animated the puppets while cinematographer Chloë Thomson moved the camera frame by frame. The shot took two days to complete.

This was the first project I directed for the NFTS's "Character of Place" workshop. We worked in teams of three (an animation director, a production designer, and a cinematographer) to make a short pixilation film that captured a strong atmosphere. We had one day to build the set and two days to shoot the film. Another project from the "Character of Place" workshop at the NFTS. In teams of three (an animation director, a production designer, and a cinematographer), we had three days to design and shoot a pixilation short with a strong sense of atmosphere. I animated the sea serpent using tea leaves and an overhead projector. The bathtub is full of newspapers covered with cotton wool. It was really fun to animate -- I'd love to do another bathtub someday. Sand animation on glass, lit from beneath. An exercise at the NFTS with sand pioneer (and fellow Harvard alum!) Caroline Leaf. Loosely based on several true stories about tarantulas/scorpions/geckos creeping into the Reckart house and unwittingly volunteering to be pets. The Reckarts have never been good with pets. Here's an old stop-motion exercise I made during my junior year at Harvard. SYNOPSIS: Michael Dunn, actor, doesn't need makeup to play Dr. Frankenstein's evil assistant Igor: he really does have a hunchback. This can be a blessing and a curse for an ambitious character actor, as this stop-motion mockumentary reveals. © Timothy Reckart 2008

SYNOPSIS A story of unrequited love between an old man who wants a friend and a squirrel who wants a sandwich. My first foray into stop-motion. I made this final exercise at Harvard in my freshman fall, finishing up January 2006.
