      • BEYOND - Memoirs In A Time Lapse

‘Beyond’ presents poetry in colorful motion and music. In 3 distinct movements, its enchanting tour of Beno's audiovisual craftsmanship lifts you from the electrifying buzz of the present to vistas of near-future tomorrows: Sparks of Inception; The pulse of the Organism; From Here to Beyond. ‘Beyond’ relates the seemingly limitless power of human imagination to create and transform on a scale far beyond our own. It is a tall tale of inspiration, courage, determination, tenacity and perseverance through adversity. Shot at locations throughout Abu Dhabi and Dubai, ‘Beyond’s implicit story is about much more than the success of the UAE. What is unfolding in the UAE is a shining, symbolic example of the towering achievements of mankind as a whole. Showing off the best of 2 years worth of shooting, 'Beyond' doubles as Beno's ‘out-of-the-box’ showreel of client-commissioned time-lapse photography work between 2011 and 2012. The musical score was composed expressly for 'Beyond' by the immensely talented, award winning composer Vladimir Persan. His gift for music seems to have no limits and having heard most of his past work, it can be said with certainty that his score for 'Beyond' is among his finest. It's an incredibly cinematic, rich, multi-layered and complex piece of work. Do yourself a favor; listen only with proper speakers or headphones. You'd be missing out any other way. • ABU DHABI 2011 - time lapse film (shorter version)

The definitive version of 'Abu Dhabi - 2011' time lapse film. It features the phenomenal original score by Vladimir Persan. Do yourself a favour and watch this film with high quality speakers because the music Vlad composed truly deserves to be heard in all of its glory. Hook your computer to multi-media speakers, home stereo, TV or headphones but DO NOT, for the sake of all that is holy, listen to the sound on the laptop's crappy built-in speaker or just as unforgivably; muted!! UPDATE - 12 March 2012 - Vladimir Persan's Original Soundtrack wins the nomination for 'BEST ORCHESTRAL/INSTRUMENTAL SONG at Hollywood Music in Media Awards 2012' !!!! UPDATE - April 2012 - Portions of 'Abu Dhabi 2011' are featured in the 3rd episode of BBC's 'Wild Arabia' documentary Series UPDATE - Aug 2013 - 'Abu Dhabi 2011' is entered into Encyclopaedia Britannica 'Project Time-Lapse'. Very honored to have my work featured there!! I’d like to thank Timesand Studios for their support on this project. I absolutely must thank Vladimir Persan for his help and the time and efforts he invested into creating the amazing original score. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the obliging staff of Arabian Construction Company and Arabtec - their management was very helpful and understanding - and all the safety staff that catered to my every need throughout the shoot. Lastly, I want to extend my super-special thanks to Mr. Ousama Ghannoum, Marketing and Media Director of Aldar. Without his help, this film would’ve never seen the light. There was quite a media frenzy about this film; below are some of the newspapers, magazines and even TV networks that interviewed me: http://en-maktoob.news.yahoo.com/uae-capital-time-lapse-video-sensation-122900219.html (Yahoo! • We Thought We Had Seen Everything In Freediving

Do you have any hidden talents or any special tricks you can do? Maybe it’s moving your tongue in a special way or being extremely flexible. David Helder can do something absolutely amazing. The funny thing is, he didn’t think it was anything special until a freediving veteran saw him doing it and was dumbfounded not only by the feat itself, but by the way David seemed to do it so effortlessly. So what’s Helder's special ability? He can create mini vortexes that shoot through the water to create intricate patterns in just about any direction. That may not sound like much, but anyone who has tried freediving or even just been messing around in the water knows that it’s no easy task to control water the way he can. Seeing is believing so watch the video above to see this one of a kind “magic” show on display for yourself. We sat down with the 40 year old Frenchman to find out a bit more about his story and found a passionate freediver who believes that it’s more than just a sport but rather, “something spiritual” that provides him with an escape from the stress of daily life where he feels that we are normally forced to show an altered version of ourselves. For him, being below the surface gives him a chance to be true to himself without having to put on any acts or trying to convince anyone that he is anything other than David. “You can knock at my door,” says Helder , “and I will not answer because I’m not there.” More than anything, it’s the meditative qualities of freediving and the chance to be “someone else” that have this 35 year freediving veteran so excited about the next dive. It was his father, a freediver in his own right, that got young David started around age 4. It hasn’t all been easy though. His worst failure came around age 12 when, “I had a blackout when doing dynamic inside a pool. I [was] rescued by a friend who was acting as a buddy. At that time, I was trying to find a different path than the one taught by my dad and my breath up was a mix of hyperventilating followed by a slow belly breathing. That technique led me to the blackout. I then decided that performing a slow belly breathing prior to a dive was definitely the only right way to freedive safely!” When asked about his biggest success, Helder responds with a smile and says, “Staying enough time underwater to make some friends: Clown fish and groupers are very friendly!!” David’s advice to anyone thinking about freediving or trying to improve their skills is to dive without a watch. In his opinion, that frees up your mind to relax and focus on the sensations around you. While he doesn’t have any inspirational quotes to share, Helder leaves us with his own parting words of wisdom that make his passion about freediving abundantly clear: “…if I am freediving it ‘s to find peace beyond thoughts and words. Freediving is taking a retreat.” Be sure to watch the video to see some stunning footage of David’s underwater vortexes and some of the marine life he encounters on his adventures. Pay special attention to the tricks he does around minute 2:40 if you want to see a really impressive display of his talents. Don’t forget to “Like,” share and comment below to let David know how much you appreciated him taking the time to be a guest on our website. Over the past few years I’ve collected a lot of time lapse and loved sharing it with you through my films “The Unseen Sea” and “Adrift”. “A Time Lapse Collection” is a medley of some of my favorite shots that didn’t make their way into either film. All of the footage was gathered on countless excursions into the Marin Headlands, the Berkeley Hills and a more recent trip to Dubai. While my two previous films focused more on the interaction of the fog, “A Time Lapse Collection” includes fast paced urban footage from San Francisco and Dubai. Lastly, I wanted to share some of the beautiful sunsets I’d captured, lighting up clouds in a vivid explosion of color. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did while shooting.
