YES! We WON Top10 again! In this year's 10th Fly-By-Night Video Challenge 2013. The theme was "Pantone Yellow". Personally I like dark humor so I thought to create a homage to those TV shows such as Twilight Zone (hence our version of the opening sequence) and Tales from the Crypt kind of narration. So we came up with an anonymous narrator and a story that rhymes with the theme "Pantone Yellow", hence "Fello named Pantone Yello", the deliberate spelling of removing the last letter or spelt to end with letter "o" to enhance the rhyming scheme and also make our video more distinct. We took almost whole Saturday afternoon to come up and finalize the script to make it flow and make sense with the intended humor and reference to a few internet meme and also praise Singapore's recent award winning movie "Ilo Ilo" (directed by Anthony Chen). And because it has that lo-fi early 80s look and quality, I thought shooting on iPhone is possible due to the lack of resolution and proper high quality lens, and most importantly allows us to experiment in shooting for this tight schedule (no need to transfer footage), and various camera angles since everything is shot only within my own bedroom with things found all around my room. (yah including the skeleton, I'm morbid that way.. hehe). Kudos goes to my video buddy, George for bouncing ideas, coming up with the props and even constructed the paper door that opens using tape, toothpicks and strings, plus he brought along his saxophone which was incorporated into the story and recorded him playing that section of jazz tune, fantastic! He taught me how to properly hold the sax, it is indeed heavy for a noob like me, haha! It has been a real challenge as we manage to script (notes), shoot(native iPhone5S camera) and edit (iMovie, CinemaFXV, VideoGrade, Movie Looks, Stop Motion, Hokusai) the whole video on a Apple iPhone5S. We did use some downloaded video clips (Ilo Ilo trailer, Trololo, Double Rainbow) from YouTube and also the preset visual effects, sound effects, and sound track provided in iMovie. So it is feasible and quite stable to do mobile video editing. Even though my video is only under 4min long (including credits and tribute to my dad) as my iPhone5S is only 16GB I have to keep dumping out unnecessary photos/videos to my MacBook Air to free up space for the output renders, should have a 64GB iPhone to do such intensive video editing work. Of course a lot to learn both pros and cons of mobile video production to improve further the quality and workflow. TRIVIA 1: We actually initially came up with the idea of the yellow cellophane as a "cheapo" way to watch the video in yellow, haha akin to wearing some anaglyph glasses, during the brainstorm over dinner right after the FBN topic was released on 6 Dec Friday 7.30pm. So we spent almost 2 hours going to Mustafa and hunting down that yellow cellophane! Well in the end the judges tried it on but too bad did not have the many pieces that we had prepared to be distributed to everyone in the theater though. 8( so everyone can participate. It was a gimmicky addition. TRIVIA 2: This is my 9th time participating Fly By Night, had missed the first year as I didn't know about it, and I was very very lucky and humbled to have won 7 times. This is indeed a competition that I literally grew with and also inspired by the extremely creative submissions of fellow competitors and many became very professional over the years. I'll miss the fun now that it has ended and final run of this annual competition. It has been marvelous while it lasted and as they say, "All good things must come to an end". #flybynight #filmgarde #objectifs #GTpro

This is the final video in my series inspired by Green Day's album trilogy, and is based on the song X-Kid from Tre, the third album. The series follows two characters, who are now together but struggling with circumstances they didn't consider before jumping headfirst into a relationship. They love each other, but is that enough? Music is copyright to Green Day and Reprise Records. This video is for purely educational, non-commercial purposes. The characters are fictional and it does not reflect the actual opinions of the band or meanings of the songs.

This video is the second of a three-video series inspired by Green Day's album trilogy, Uno, Dos and Tre. Each video is based on a song from each album and follows two characters, a famous man and young girl who has an affair with him. This one is based on the song See You Tonight from Dos, and shows "Angel Blue" finally giving in and going out to meet the narrator from her song. Nothing is what it seems, though...
