Cinema 4D animation - I made this funny little robot when I was working on skid steer (as used by construction vehicles, tanks etc) - it steers by varying the power to each side. The dynamic bouncy head has a cardan connector which gives 2 degrees of movement + angular springs. Neck and arms are cloned torus with spline wrap, spline start and end points joined to the body parts using XPresso point nodes. Random seeds derived from robot names - bot.01, bot.02 etc. Robots reverse when front collision detected - collision tutorial coming soon. Scene file with 3 colliding robots - https://www.dropbox.com/s/chos5fdublf9ip5/xpbots.zip?dl=0

    • Xpresso - Linear, Spherial and Cylindrical Wipe Transition

I have been planning on this tutorial for a long time. Working on a project, I discovered that I could use a gradient shader in the Alpha Channel of a Material to work as a linear wipe in After Effects. I would control the start and end of the gradient using two nulls. With great excitment I pushed the technique even further and discovered that I could use the same principle to get a Spherical or cylindrical Wipe. I intended to do three separate mini tutorials on these. Later I found out that somebody else had posted something similar on the internet (Lasse Clausen, https://vimeo.com/109315806 (greetings to you, Lasse!)). At first I got discouraged, because I thought that this blew away my idea, but later I decided to to a tutorial on how create a Xpresso setup that incorporates all three Wipe Transition types. I wanted this setup to be as flexible and automated to use as possible. You can easily switch or add numerous gradient shaders to control with a single null. And if you don't see any practical use for this preset, then it will surely count as a smart exercise in Xpresso. May be you would have to watch this video more than once to fully understand it. If you have questions, fell free to ask in the comments section. Scene files: http://goo.gl/j40fi3

I'm happy to welcome my 1000th follower on vimeo today! THANK YOU to this fabulous community - always inspiring, supporting and willing to share knowledge. I created this little typographic animation with Boole Objects, Mograph and Xpresso in Cinema 4D. And to give something back likewise you can once again download the c4d project files here: http://www.kenottmann.com/2015/01/blog-1000-follower-bei-vimeo Music: 1000 Miles by Bluntspeakers (http://goo.gl/IdgbhK) Based on a text effect by Chris Schmidt (http://goo.gl/bcvfQx) For updates follow me @ http://www.facebook.com/ken.ottmann.design http://www.twitter.com/kenottmann

Visualisation for a doomsday machine that consists of an infinite array of self-replicating and synchronous running nanosized double-pendulums aiming to influence earth' rotation and trajectory to make it fall into the sun. Still have to erradicate chaotic behaviour to achieve the necessary synchronicity. I guess that’s basically mean but with chaos still compromising the evil plan, all these cloned pendulums each creating a different motion pattern look so neat. As it probably won’t work as a „doomsday machine“ now and in the future, we can maybe use it as a generator for lovely tattoos.

In my 3rd XPresso car tutorial I show how to give a dynamic car some random steering. The car also turns round and comes back when it strays too far from the scene center. I used these techniques in my Mice in GSG city and Daleks movies. Start and end files, and mouse + dalek 3D models - https://www.dropbox.com/s/6senofken4o6aip/xp3files2.zip?dl=0

Cinema 4D animation - some XPresso mice with random steer and speed in the GSG city. Each mouse has a different random seed derived from the last 2 digits of its name (mouse.01, mouse.02 etc). When a mouse strays too far from the scene center, it turns and comes back. To prevent logjams, if a mouse's speed drops below a threshold (ie gets stuck) it kicks into reverse for about 1 sec.
