Tânia Duarte Born in the city of Espinho, in the year of 1976; With a Bachelor’s in Communication Design, by the Faculty of Fine Arts from the University of Porto, Tânia has been developing, through the last twelve years, several activities in the fields of animation video and cinema, such as directing, teaching and also coaching workshops. She has been collaborating with several plastic artists, such as Helia Aluai (”Nós somos quem sóis”) e Ícaro (“Ex-machinae”). Tânia directed the movie “A Guardiã dos Sonhos” – which was selected to the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, in an itinerant exhibit (Nimes, Edinburgh, Porto); She made the animation for the movie “Cicatriz” (Scar), which won the award “Onda Curta” (Short Wave) in the IMARGENS Portuguese Language Countries’ Cinema and Video Festival, Cape Verde, in 2005; She also participated in the animation team from the movie “A Meio da Noite” (In the Middle of the Night), by Fernando Saraiva, which won awards in festivals such as the Cinanima (Tóbis Award 2008) and Turkey’s Adana Golden Boll Film (Best Animation Short Film 2009). In the Cinanima Festival, Tânia had some movies in the run for awards, result of the orientation in Ateliers with children and teens. From those, we can stand out, for example, “Apito Final” (Final Whistle) (Teen Film-maker Award), “O Lagarteiro” (Honorable Mention), and “Amigo do Peito” (Bosom Friend), also selected in the Paths of Portuguese Cinema Festival, Animamundi 2012, and the 2012 Hamburg Festival (Filmfest Hamburg). She also has been collaborating as an animation cinema coach with the Casa da Animação (Porto) (Porto’s Animation House), the Espalhafitas(ANIMAIO), located in Abrantes, and the ANIMAR Festival, located in Vila do Conde. She teached the disciplines of Animation I and Animation 2D, from 2006 to 2010, from the Digital Games Design and Multimedia Course, in IPB (Bragança’s Polytechnic Institute). She also was a teacher in the 2D/3D Animation Course, in the Escola Artística e Profissional Árvore. (Árvore’s Artistic and Professional School), from 2008 to 2010. She was a coach, animator and director in the project “MIX REPÚBLICA”, an original project from MONSTRA – Lisbon’s Animation Festival, co-produced and supported by the National Commission for the Republic’s Centennial Commemorations. This itinerant project traveled about 25 Portuguese municipalities from the course of one year (2010-2011), from which resulted 25 short films about the Portuguese First Republic.
