MURDER DOLLHOUSE is a short film project that explores historic tales of the macabre in entertaining and darkly comic ways.
The idea conceited through a few inspiration. I had been reading some old pulp horror comics of the 40s and 50s, wishing I could still find full committal thrillers in comics today. Sure there are still horror books out there, but they tend go overboard in crude graphics looking like Spawn while being a total bore in the story telling. I admire how seriously those old books took their art, yet still maintained a level of fun in the delivery.
I also had an extended conversation with my friend Evan Kertman about his desire to make music for film some day. It kind of clicked when I realized I had a good story I've been wanting to get right. I've been working with animation but thought I should grow some balls and go for the full shebang. Working with actors also seemed like a fulfilling experience, rather than just hearing my own voice. My friends had a wide degree of experience in this field but I considered what their strengths and personalities were in casting them. I personally love what they did with their roles and seeing the first film projected on the wall for the first time got me hooked. I want to continue telling stories, working with people I find entertaining and growing with this project. Plus, hey, its history. There are countless great stories, we want to find and tell some really interesting ones.
