Tha Boogie is a Pop/ Alternative duo from Rancho Cucamonga, California. Members Tuko Proby (Tuko) and Jarryd James (James Jet) met in high school after being introduced by James Jet's sister. The two made an instant connection based off of similar influences like Missy Elliot, Timbaland and The Superfriends. The two almost immediately embarked on their journey to creating original tunes of their own. After unsuccessfully attempting to seek out a local music scene Tha Boogie had decided, with the support of their parents, to set up their first home studio and called it Ponderville. Ponderville was the catalyst to the music that would soon catch the ear of Grammy Award winning Artist/Producer Raphael Saadiq.
In 2009 Tha Boogie signed to Raphael Saadiq's label, Velma Records which also got them the gig as his opening act for his 2009 US Tour. 2009 was also the year of Tha Boogie's first EP release, Love Tha Boogie Vol. 1 (Steal This Sh*t). The EP garnered rave reviews from bloggers all over the globe and served up 3 well received singles, "I'm Peter Parker", "Running, Running" and "Best Around". The EP gained support by KCRW and Tha Boogie received their first radio play which also got them on KCRW's Top 50 Most Played Albums reaching the #24 spot.
Tha Boogie continued to see more success after being requested to do the UCLA Jazz Reggae Fest and share the stage with major artist like, Q-tip, Bilal, Quadron and Raphael Saadiq. Tha Boogie soon became well known in Hollywood, for their dynamic performance style and gripping sense of fashion. More artist seemed to take note of Tha Boogie such as Bilal & Nikka Costa who hand picked the group to be the opening act for the Los Angeles dates on their 2010 tours.
Rolling Stone Magazine seemed to also notice the havoc that Tha Boogie was stirring up, and sought out the group to participate in the magazines first "Do You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star" contest. The contest would allow Rolling Stone Magazine readers the opportunity to pick 1out of 16 undiscovered acts to be on the cover of the magazine. Tha Boogie ranked top eight in the competition, but would soon grab the attention of numerous industry insiders. Like the Red Hot Organization who enlisted Tha Boogie to contribute to the Red Hot + Rio 2 project which was the follow up of their successful Red Hot + Rio compilation CD. The project included Tha Boogie as well as other artist such as Beirut, Aloe Blacc, John Legend, Beck and more.
Stepping in to 2012 Tha Boogie is gearing up to release their new EP Good Luck Charlie Vettuno, which will serve as a follow up to 2009's Love Tha Boogie Vol. 1 (Steal This Sh*t). Thus far the group has experienced plenty of growth as well as changes within the aesthetic of the group, sizing down from a trio to a duo, the world has only begun to see their full potential.
