Originally from Orange County, CA Winston and Aaron Tao started their filmmaking careers by first stepping in front of the camera. Realizing they had the potential to write and create their own stories, they both decided to pursue Media Arts degrees; with Winston attending Chapman Universities Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, and Aaron pursuing his Masters in Media Arts and Communications from Dallas Theological Seminary.

At Chapman, Winston was able to sit under the mentor-ship of industry professionals such as Betty Thomas, John Badham, and Dezso Magyar, and was accepted as one of five recipients for Chapman’s prestigious OL Halsell scholarships. It was during this time that the twins were able to create over 7 short films, with Aaron writing and Winston directing, and were able to make a name for themselves as some of the schools most promising and talented students. Director/Producer Betty Thomas has stated that Winston’s “sense of style and pace is unique, and his ability to tell a story through composition, lighting, and performance is outstanding and refreshing.” During Winston’s enrollment at Chapman, Aaron also entered Chapman Film School’s competitive Taiwan Film Exchange program, where he beat out over 30 competing screenwriting students and had his script, “A Sick Plant,” produced. He also played the lead character. Dr. Reg Grant, Aaron’s Media Arts Professor, has stated, “To say I’m proud of you and your brother would be a classic case of understatement. It’s rare that I can tell a student how grateful I am that he/she has taken the art of making film, of characterization, of writing, editing, and composition to a level of excellence that inspires.”

The Tao Twins’ Senior Thesis Film, “Picture. Perfect.” Swept Chapman’s Annual Cecil Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Production Design. Winston, along with Aaron, both co-wrote the script with Winston directing and Aaron serving as the collaborative director. The film is currently en route to festival circuits both national, and internationally.

They are currently writing their first feature-length screenplay together and their ultimate goal is to co-own their own production company. By combining their gifts and talents, their heart, and passion is to impact culture through film with artistically challenging and redemptive messages.
